hey guys, i just received this email from UCLA.

Dear _______:

Thank you for applying to UCLA. As part of our review process, we would like to give you the opportunity to provide additional information about yourself. This is an optional supplemental component to our review process that may assist our readers in evaluating your application. For more information and to complete this supplemental questionnaire, please visit http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/supplemental. If you choose to submit supplemental information, please do so by 11:59 pm, February 9, 2010.

Note that we are still in the process of reviewing applications. Decisions will be available on our Web site towards the end of March.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

And when I log on, there are 2 essay prompts and space to fill out fall and spring senior grades. I asked some people, and they said they haven't received this. What does this mean? I'm guessing I'm borderline or something?

Also, if anyone here who applied a year or a couple years ago received this email, did you get accepted or rejected?

They’re sent out to borderline applicants, yes. However, it is a good sign-- you haven’t been rejected, and if UCLA’s is like Berkeley’s, 50% of those who receive this get accepted. That includes those who don’t bother to fill it out, so if you actually do it, you probably have a good shot.
That’s based on what I read about Berkeley’s, but I imagine UCLA is similar.

Personally, I got the request from Berkeley, but their deadline had been so early that I hadn’t made an educated college application choice. I’ve learned since that there is no way I could attend. Therefore, I didn’t do it. The spot can go to someone else.

I’ve had 4 students get this request from Berkeley and UCLA in the last few years…two ended up getting in and two did not. If you love UCLA I would strongly suggest that you work on the supplement thoughtfully; if you do not, it may not be worth your time.

gosh i wish i got that supplemental “borderline” thing from at least one of the two…it’s really starting to worry me cuz my stats are borderline (at best?).

ya think they still might be sending them out?

^ Same. I hope they’re still sending them out! I mean, the OP received his/her’s really late.

And yes, you should definitely work hard on it if you want to go to UCLA. People who receive supplementals have a higher admittance rate than regular applicants, if that makes you feel any better.

They have a section for fall grades, but should I include my grades? I feel like I didn’t do too well…Just decent enough to get by. I got a 4.0.

Advanced Speech and Debate - A
AP Language - B
AP Calculus - C
AP Econ - B
AP Government - A
AP Statistics - B

I received that last year, worked extremely hard on the essays/prompts, and I am now studying at ucla. I would rec putting a lot of thought into these, your future is def worth the effort

man I hate this…
it’s like the colleges are playing mind games or something >.>
some of my friends who have about the same stats (higher gpa, lower sat or whatnot)
and they have not received this supplemental stuff, so i don’t get why their decision is already made and i’m still borderline ><
sigh…
