Chance me pleaseeee!
Major: History, Alternate- Women's studies
GPA: 3.4
TAP
Pre reqs- Done for History
IGETC- Will be completed by end of spring
Schools: UCLA, UCSB, UCSD (UCSB and UCSD are TAG)
I have a slight upward trend with a 4.0 in last 10 units, but i also have 6 w's including 2 this last fall because of a personal situation. (My dad's lung cancer returned so i had to drop 2 classes but they don't affect any pre reqs or requirements and i addressed it on my uc app.

EC: Work part time, volunteer work at VA Hospital, coaching basketball teams at the rec center, captain of high school basketball team in 10th grade and was VP of red cross club.

Also, for women's studies there is only 1 pre req required. However, each of the four cc's i attended do not offer an equivalent course, so will I be penalized?

Since your CCC didn’t offer the womens stdies class/pre-req you will not be penalized. I think you have an outside chance (30-40%) for History and a 60-70% chance for women’s studies.

Thanks, Nick. In one of my personal statements i wrote about my dad being diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year and how it has affected me. This was also the reason why i had to drop 2 classes last fall but they didn’t involve completing any requirements, so hopefully they take this into consideration…

mmmm i dunno i feel like you have a higher chance than just a 60% for history. i was talking to my tap counselor and she was randomly telling me about the avg gpa acceptances for impacted majors that were tap certified and for psych she said that people got in with a 3.5 cuz they were TAP certified. i know you’re not a psych major but it makes me think cuz history is impacted but not like how psych is so i think you can get in with a 3.4 cuz ur tap certified and have ur pre reqs finished. i would say u have a 70-80% chance for history that’s just my guess…and for ur alternative (if it comes down to that) u should be in.

^What he said, my GPA prior to this semester will be a 3.4, trouble is the colleges don’t know it because of how it’s come about so I have to appeal my highly likely rejection from UCLA but the general statement has been “3.5 + TAP = You’re In.” History’s absolutely not as impacted as Psychology, my guess is average non-TAP is about 3.6, with TAP you’d probably be safe with a 3.3 even (Don’t push that just to be safe but you should be alright)

@uclakid and @Itachirumon, you must be new to CC. If you weren’t, you’d know that “60%” means “80%,” and that a “high reach” is really just a “reach,” and that a “reach” is practically a sure thing.

This is CC, where a 4.0 applicant with TAP is a “maybe.”

:-)

Anyway, la4ever09, just take all this with a grain of salt. None of us really know, and what we say doesn’t really matter. Cross your fingers, say a prayer if you’re that sort, and hope for the best. You’ve got a fighting chance, and at the end of the day, a lot of the selection for borderline applicants (like myself, I might add) comes down to a metaphorical coin toss.
