UCLA TAP program question

Hi, I applied to UC's last fall, UCLA being one of them....
I currently attend ccc and I am in honors program and successfully finished all the requirements for TAP

I just had a question as how TAP works.

actually I put 1st major as EE
and 2nd major as Math-econ

so when they do the selection do they go to EE then if i get rejected for that then they consider for math-econ? or how would TAP work in cases like mine?

ps (i understand priority does not apply to engineering but I did honors anyways...)

You’re right. They consider you for your alternate major if rejected from your first choice. And yeah, you don’t receive priority for engineering but they still consider your alternate major if you’re rejected from your first.

On the contrary, being in the Honors program (tap) does give you a legup on the competition even in an impacted major… Mine is business economics. However, I thought you had to pick a NON-impacted 2nd major. Mine being linguistics. I am not quite sure if math-economics is non-impacted. If it is, then you are fine. The last poster was absolutely correct in that they consider ur EE then if rejected, they consider math-econ.

TAP certified students will be reviewed for alternate majors only if they meet both of the following provisions.

A. The alternate major may NOT be one of the following 10 selective majors:

§ Pre-Business Economics

§ Communication Studies

§ Pre-Economics

§ Pre-Economics - International Area Studies

§ English

§ Pre-Global Studies

§ Pre-History

§ Pre-Political Science

§ Pre-Psychology

§ Pre-Sociology

B. The alternate major must have been listed on the original UC Application. Requests to add or change the alternate major after submission of the application will not be considered. This applies to all alternate majors at UCLA.

math-econ is non impacted…
just an fyi

*You could have actually petitioned to have an impacted major as your backup, which is what I did. UCLA released this new rule (not being able to choose a backup major that’s impacted) just months before we applied. So naturally, some people got screwed over since they were taking courses for two majors for 1.5 years, only to be told that they were wasting their time. So I wasn’t happy so I talked to my UCLA rep and TAP program coordinator at my CCC and my Honors Counselor about this. And they just made me sign some forms and I was able to choose comm studies for first major and poli sci as my backup. I was gonna do phil as my backup, but since i knew some people i was able to choose poli sci.
