Hi “bluearrowil”, its Sunny from MUN.

i know how you feel =

haha hey sunny

My transfer counselor, who also does TAP coordinating and honors program told us that if your major is biz econ or econ DO NOT choose econ/biz econ as alternate major because that’s pointless!!! Also poli sci with alternate IDS.

You’re supposed to choose something else that you have completed a lot of reqs for already, something not impacted. In my case, I chose geography because I had 2/3 classes done for it already, and I got in with that.

wow i wish my counselor told me that -_-

“I hope a perfect 4.0 major GPA with a 3.7 in average is going to give me a chance to LA or CAL. My downside is having 2 Ws on my major classes T-T…” - Tr4nsferringSoon

Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything, but that is very very bad bro.

Source: [UCLA Department of Economics](http://www.econ.ucla.edu/undergraduate/majors/bizecon.html)

“You are allowed a maximum of one course repeat in the pre-major and you can repeat that one course one time only.”

“Repetition of more than one pre-major course or of one pre-major course more than once will result in automatic denial of admission to the major.”

Bus Econ here is very strict and they follow everything word for word. But I wish you the best of luck

So regarding what rccola said… Would it be bad for me to apply IDS and alternate Sociology? I want to double major but in terms of applying as a TAP student, is this bad?

Amazing, thats referring to premajor status while at UCLA when you have to take econ 11 and econ 101. You can’t repeat those two clases more than once. Also by repeat they don’t mean withdrawing and taking it later, they mean failing it and then repeating the course to replace the grade.

I think IDS/Sociology should be ok…I’m not sure how impacted they are but the general rule is if the first major is impacted, alternate shouldn’t be so you get in either way.

Hm, I think both IDS and Soc are impacted. Not good. There’s nothing else that interests me, hahaha. Dang it.

I’m pretty scared now that you didn’t get in with TAP. I haven’t heard of a single person. Rare. Also, it seems like everyone who applies for Scholars gets in, at least at SMC. Am I wrong? Ahah. That means a whole chunk of people are almost guaranteed to UCLA.

You’re probably right on that. Don’t really know the specifics of withdrawing classes for pre major. Just quoting the site.

I just called UCLA Admissions and this was the conversation I had after waiting half an hour.

Me: I would like to know why I was rejected.
Her: Your GPA didn’t make the cut for your major, Economics.
Me: What was it set at?
Her: 3.8. You didn’t make it.
Me: Is there anything I could say in an appeal to overturn the decision?
Her: No. Stay another year at community college and get your GPA up.
Me: I already did that. I was TAP certified too.
Her: I know. Your GPA was still too low for admission into that major.

Great. I’m still writing an appeal.

I’m wondering if anyone has ever gotten rejected for a History major with TAP. Anyone heard of any unfortunate stories?

I’ve been ■■■■■■■■ around here for a while and decided to make an account when I noticed this UCLA TAP Rejects thread.

Major: Biochemistry
GPA: 3.76
Majority of pre-reqs complete, IGETC complete, TAP certified
EC: Volunteer @ MCH UCLA, ADHD tutor, varsity track & field (3 years HS), marching band (3 years HS), math club secretary, designer & contributor of local community’s newsletter, sales associate at family business

Status: REJECTED.

So much for taking all those honors courses. Should I go to UCSD or stay another year at CC? All hopes of Cal have been crushed so I’m attempting to think ahead.

Today, I called in and asked why I was rejected and they told me I didn’t complete the calc series at SMC. Understandable, but I was told by my scholars counselor that my major isn’t barred by the math requirement and that I should be fine without it. The lady on the other end had the nerve to say my GPA was on the lower end. I know someone who got in last year with a 3.1. I asked if I should write an appeal, she said it wasn’t worth it.

■■■.

What a lot of people fail to understand is that Honors Program or the TAP provides prioriy consideration for only those who are majoring in the school of Arts and Sciences.

bluearrowil, it sounds like 3.8 with TAP means automatic acceptance from what that lady was saying.

Also, for my school at least, you can’t be TAP certified if you don’t complete all of your prereqs.

From the TAP website, it says that you need to have 3.8 GPA for impacted and 3.5 for non.

If I drop a class, does that count as a repeat?
A drop does not count as a repeat. Students may not drop “Impacted” classes except due to extreme emergencies. Students needing to drop an impacted class due to an extreme emergency should see College Academic Counseling in A316 Murphy Hall.

You may repeat a class only if you get a “C-” or lower. The UCLA college allows students to repeat up to 16 units of courses where the second grade replaces the first. After 16 units, the two grades are averaged into your GPA.

You are allowed to repeat only one pre-major course and may repeat that course only one time.
