i currently have a 3.7 but do not have a tap. i am i molecular genetics major in which the average gpa accepted is around a 3.6
is there a possibilty that not having a tap could harm my chances or be counted against me

There is absolutely no way lack of having TAP will be counted against you. It’s one of those things where if you have it, it’s a boost but if you don’t have it it’s not going to hurt you. If it helps, think of it like an RPG, equipping your transcript with an extra weapon that does +5 damage. So if you have it you have that +5 but without it you’re just basically getting +0, it’s not taking anything AWAY from your app, make sense?

That being said, in theory the only possible way it could harm you is if a huge number of other molecular genetics majors applied WITH the TAP, you’re over the average so while you aren’t gaurenteed in you have a higher chance. So not having TAP can’t hurt you personally except relative to the other applicants. I would suggest if you have time to qualify for it that you take the extra year to TAP certify and get that golden ticket in there but it can’t hurt to shoot for it now and try your luck. Best of all, I’m pretty sure molecular genetics isn’t THAT impacted (although someone correct me if I’m wrong) so you’re not looking at something all tricky.

Essentially: If you can TAP, try to, but if you don’t want to risk it then you’re still sitting pretty golden.

honestly you should be in good standing with a 3.7 esp with that major even w/o tap.
