On other threads such as UCLA SUCKS only the negative aspects are being brought to attention about UCLA. I do not doubt that there are many negative aspects, but I am sure UCLA also has a lot of great things about it as well.

Please mention positive experiences with UCLA to help balance the impression people are getting of UCLA.

UCLA shares most of Berkeley's good aspect - prestige, abundant resources, world-class professors and facility, and top academic programs. Sure, berkeley's attribute may very slightly have edge over UCLA, but is the difference big enough to make Berkeley an ivy-calibar and UCLA just a step above community college education? Anyone who believes in this deserves not to walk around the Earth surface without having been sent off to mental hospital for having a greatly distorted mindset.

and as lostincode said... UCLA has something that Cal greatly lacks - hot girls. Oh yeah and the sunshine weather.

berkeley is way beyond ucla, not just slightly.

berkeley is ivy-caliber. ucla is on par with community college.

did you attend UCLA? What is so bad about it? I need something more descriptive than "UCLA sucks" since I am considering applying there next year.

eddyx. maybe you should ask the people who actually attend ucla (hint: ucla board) instead of asking some of the most anti-UCLA people because you are only going to get obvious responses...

don't mind lostinmind. He's half-joking around.
He just saying it cuz the summer classes he took at UCLA were incredibly easy (but then, anyone can take ucla summer session).

The UCLA forum (like most of the school specific forums) is not very active and what does get posted there mostly revolves around parking permits and dormitory comparisons.

I didn't realize that lostincode hadn't attended UCLA, but thats why I asked. So far the two people who are so negative about UCLA are a summer school student (lostincode) and a guy who only attended orientation (mojojojo).

I'm not going to consider what they say TOO heavily, but I'd still like to hear it. The overcrowding of the UCs is a big issue for me.

You must be joking. UCLA is far superior academically to any community college and even almost every other public university (and most private ones as well). Based on its undergraduate programs alone, it is at least Berkeley's equal and the graduate programs are all first-class. That is why UCLA is world-famous and is widely regarded, along with UC Berkeley, as a flagship campus of the UC system.

ucla has no positives other than location, weather, and girls.

terrible teachers, terrible counselors, bad food, and no parking.
[/quote]

Yup, whereas Cal has perfected its parking system, hires top chefs from 5-star hotels all around the World to prepare the best campus food in the nation, packed with incredibly dedicated counselors and the ultimately dominating professors that make Harvard professors look like bunch of kindergarten teachers.

well, berkeley has the most noble prize winners!

also, berkeleys food is really good, and they have food from different cultures, which is always good and enlightening.

ucla does NOT rank #2 nationwide, where the hell did anyone get that information from? According to princetonreview..ucla isnt even on the list!

Okay... in order to make UCLA look better, is it really necessary to rag on Cal?

UCLA is a great school and I think everyone knows that. However, I have found in my experience, that if you are from SoCal area, you regard UCLA with higher prestige than Cal, whereas the folks from NorCal generally feel Berkeley is the better school. So let's just recognize our biases and move on.

And yes, Berkeley has its faults; i'll be the first to admit. The other day, I got a parking ticket for being 2 minutes late to the meter. The evil meter maid was writing the ticket as I approached and refused to reconsider. Regarding food, we all know Berkeley is home to all these little cafes and ethnic foods. And while we think 'oh that must be great...' my dad who is in the restaurant business specifically warned me to not eat at those little hole-in-the-wall places because Berkeley's health inspection standards are pretty lax. Gross!
