UCLA: The Poitive Aspects

+1 diamond.

uh oh, does that mean i shouldn't go back to that brazilian cafe shack on university? lol...

and about the parking ticket, she may be evil but once she puts her pen on that paper she can't stop writing the ticket, then shes in deep isht.

Berkeley holds a slight edge in prestige, at least were I come from (East Coast) but they are both "labeled" schools. UCLA is filled with frattish sports guys and Cal is filled with hippies who don't do anything....obviously not true but I guess each school has their respective "label."

What's good about UCLA? Top notch athletic programs, good looking women (some of us care), great social scene, weather, beautiful/clean campus :)

The food at UCLA is good, ranked #2 in the US right behind Cornell. They have 4 different dinning halls that you can choose from, which have different foods, from sushi to pizza. I have only taken the class I am in right now, but the professor seems very knowledgeable and is very helpful. My academic adviser does seem a little dry, but she is also helpful. I guess to each his own, but I feel I have made a good choice in finishing up my bachelor degree here at UCLA.

UCLA DOES NOT RANK #2 IN THE NATION. where are you getting these rankings from?

yeah i heard it was right behind cornell too!!

I have ate the food in the dinning halls my share of times while visiting friends at UCLA. The food their was better than any other school dinning hall I had been to for sure.

One good thing about UCLA is that my friends who go there have mentioned they were getting plenty of e-mails about interns through the school.

I sat in on a seminar about where technology was headed, and I thought the teacher was great.

One of my friends there mentioned the student body is very intelligent, and it pushes him in a positive way to do even better.

People who complaining about UCLA's majors not being top ranked need to get over themselves. Sure Cal has a higher ranking in just about every major, but since when is being in the top 20 in most majors not great.

By the way, I bet most schools orientations are lame and full of information people already know.

This isn't the best indicator but it suggestive enough - UCLA is #25/26 on the USNWR list/rankings. Its well-regarded enough to make it to the top. Seriously, dawritingmachine, are you kidding me?

He just saying it cuz the summer classes he took at UCLA were incredibly easy (but then, anyone can take ucla summer session).

Some of the more fun titled courses (Classical Mythology, etc.) that are taught by graduate school students who are testing out their teaching skills or by visiting lecturers are on the way-easy side. GE classes are easy enough during the school-year; they're even more so during Summer Sessions when the instructors aren't the typical professors or instructors. What classes did you take? Don't base the entire school on those sole experiences.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences so far. I'm curious though - how much experience have you had with the campus? Courses? Food? How long have you been at UCLA? What's your major too?

Yes, at least take into considerations the numbers and stats of the incoming class. Of course sure you'll meet someone that makes you think "How did YOU get in?" That's the same with any school though the likelihood of encountering that attitude is distributed differently. Overall, the students are pretty smart.

How many of you are judging this from researching all of the nuances of individual department and separating the graduate and undergraduate school departments? How about looking at a major like "Biology" where it consists of chemistry, physics, math, etc. from different departments? How much does the accolades of researchers (rather than instructors) factor in in changing the dynamics of the course and affecting your future employment and graduate school prospects? Yes, you're in a highly-motivating environment. How much of its greatness actually trickles down and how much of this is significant when compared to the departments at UCLA where it is on a similar level of well-regard but not equal?

I dunno academic, the folks at the brazilian shack pay attention to cleanliness.. I've watched them make a smoothie before. Just be wary of those places where you can't actually see them prepare the food and the place looks suspect to begin with, lol.

lol i loved the brazilian shack. the brazilian rice bowl was the best until one day, i found a squishy thing attached to a piece of chicken. it was too traumatizing. i wont be back for a while..

thanks for lettin me know...

ewwwwwwwwwww

berkeley has better food than ucla?

Please see the post in the "more negative" UCLA threads which I have also closed today. I am closing this thread as well, as it has degenerated into the same sorts of problems evident in those threads.
