ESSAYS:
accomplishment: About how I used to be really terrible at math in a family of math olympiads. Took summer class after summer class at community college to get better [now i'm in ap calc bc and ap stat and what have you]. The point: I not only improved, but started to really enjoy math, and it made me think about what I want to pursue, since math is what usually holds those who want to pursue science back.

world: My school has the best Biotechnology program in the nation. So I talked about that and my internship, and how Biotech is the only class on campus that is actually diverse, since it has not only the AP kids I see over and over again, but those from different backgrounds and cliques. The class is also simulated like a real company, hence it is laid out how the world actually is and the internship opportunities give you a taste of maturity.

I hope i didn't put TOO much

Thanks a lot Errybody!

:]]

also…chancing back wise…i only really know about UC’s…but if i find stats for other schools I see on my school website…I’ll give a stab at chancing those too.

I’m not sure, btu the EC’s look weak, even though scores are great.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1035638-help-out-nuerotic-junior-top-tiers-ill-chance-back-you-know-you-want.html</a></p>

yeah…my life consisted mostly of piano 5+ hours a week. =/

oh and uc app only consists of 3 ec spots…so…

u mean 5?^^

^^yah 5, UCLA is a low reach for you. When I went to UCLA they said that in the subjective factors, the personal statement is pretty important caz there are no letters of recs and interviews. And for EC’s they look at LID: leadership, improvement, and dedication. But stats are a pretty big part of UCLA. Your essay topics don’t sound all too interesting, i hope you wrote them very well.

I think UCLA is a low reach/high match for you and Berkeley is a reach. All others are match/safety. Good luck to you! I hope we both get in to UCLA :)

oops 5.
as for leadership: YAC and tutoring…although i hope the Readers see that as leadership. haha

as for the essays: i tried to write them more towards my neurology major, going for premed, and my various tutors/readers said they were excellent.

I didn’t realize my Ec’s were so weak =[

Well thanks guys!
UCSD second choice ain’t too bad right? haah

good luck to you all :]

Low reach at Berkeley, high match at UCLA, in at the rest. You seem like a very competitive applicant. Good luck!

bump. Thanks guys.

where do you live?

I live in California. :]

^ You have a higher chance then

this is true. :]

I think match/safety for every UCs except UCLA and Berkeley.

UCLA: low reach/high match and Berkeley reach.

In my opinion, the topics on your essays are good choices. You have already show passion for math from being a not-so-good in math to not only good at but good at math with passion. With that alone, if you go for any major that is quantitative, you have very good chance. They love to hear that.
In my essay before (2006), I focus on the passion for math and my 2 years tutoring experience and I got in both UCLA and UC Berkeley as a math major.

For the internship part, it is very strong but it would be stronger if you can link the math passion with that internship because as of now, it seems like they don’t really click together. You want to develop an essay that is a coherent, complete, unique, informative, free of grammar error and not jumping on different topics that focus on your strength.

Your other stats are also good, I would suggest you to make sure maintain a good GPA in your senior year to keep up your good work!

When you get the real acceptance/rejection, please let me know as well… i’m curious about the results.

Also, are you doing math major or science related major??? One thing is that engineering is SUPER SUPER competitive to get in at both UCLA and UC Berkeley.

Kevin101!
Thank you so much for your thorough response! I will let you know my results in March [as soon as i figure out all the bells and whistles of college confidential]

Also I am going for a neuroscience/physiology major [premed]

Seem like you have a good plan!

If you are going for pre-med route, I advice you to start buying some review book for MCAT starting your first year to get familiar with the materials a little bit because you will be very busy in your Junior year so it is very hard to study for both the tests and your classes at the same time.

Lucky, your major is a bit less intense than the bio-chem. However, you will still expect to work like hell as a pre-med.

For decision, I believe UCLA/UCB usually send out results later than other UCs, around beginning of April to mid April for borderline candidates.

I’m applying to:
UC Berkeley: Low reach
UC Davis: match
UC Irvine: match
UC Los Angeles [top choice]: high match/low reach
UC San Diego: probably in, low reach
UC Santa Barbara: match
UC Santa Cruz: match

Good academics
Good ECs
How come you don’t want to go to Berkeley? You have a good shot there, and it’s a great school!

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1052903-chance-me-jhu-gt-mit-vt.html</a>
Thanks!

I’m actually applying to UC at Berk and UCLA as well =D, but I’m an international student, so going to be much harder to get in.

UC at Berk: Low reach
UCLA: reach

I believe you’ll get in to the rest with no problems.

Chance me back please :D

LOL, I just noticed the similarities between our two screennames haha.
