You stated that International Development Studies is the field that interests you the most but that you do not have the slightest interest in being an economist. Do you realize that nearly everyone who works in the field of International Development is an economist?

“I suggest Anthro or Geo with a minor in Global Studies.”

I assume Geo is Geography and not Geology. My eldest son is a Geology major at Sacramento State and so far he has taken three semesters of Calculus for Math, Physical Science and Engineering majors, one semester of Calculus based Physics and is currently taking Differential Equations and the second semester of Calculus based Physics. He will still have to take a third semester of Calculus based Physics, an upper division Math course Advanced Mathematical Techniques for Scientists and Engineers and two semesters of General Chemistry in addition to all of his Geology courses.

These are certainly not the kind of courses that zick 12 would go anywhere near based on what he has taken so far.

I have a somewhat similar dilemma. I asked this question on the 2012 Transfer Chance Me thread, but I wanted to hear what others had to say.

I’m interested in both Psych and Anthro.
When I apply this year as a Psych major, I will have completed 4/5 prerequisites after this fall semester.

On the other hand, if I apply as an Anthro major, then I will only have 1/4 prereqs completed after this fall semester. I can finish the rest in the Spring, but here’s where I’m stuck on what to do.

Anthro has a higher admit rate (64.90%) than Psych’s (24.9%). Which major would give me a higher chance of getting in UCLA? The one that I have the most prereqs completed so far or the one with the higher admit rate?

I might as well post my stats too so you can see where I stand as an applicant. I’m a first-year transfer btw. Transferring from: CCC Applying to: UCLA Current Cum. GPA: 3.63 (from only two courses so far) Units Completed: 36.3 (41.3 units if I get in these two classes) by the end of Fall 2011 semester; will complete 60 units by the end of Spring 2012 semester IGETC: Will be complete after Spring 2012 semester. Extra Curricular: None at the moment; thinking of joining Student Govt or volunteer at a pharmacy; not a lot of places in my community where I can volunteer that has something to do with Psych; also no TAP Others: ELC in high school

Psych is an impacted major, so obviously anthro (B.A) will give you a higher chance of getting in into UCLA. Anthro (B.S) has way too many requirements, which you probably didn’t take the prereqs for. Assist.org says that anthro (B.A) only has 4 requirements which you can probably finish by the end of spring.

By the way, I’m relatively sure you can’t switch to a psychology major or any other impacted majors once you’re in. So you have to stick with anthro (B.A), if that’s what you apply for.
