I'm applying this fall to UCLA as a philosophy major with a 3.4 UC GPA and TAP. By the time of application i will have 2/4 of the pre reqs done and the other two will be done by this fall.
How do my chances look for UCLA? I was also wondering if i should apply to UCB as well?

What grades for the prerequisites?

With TAP, you’ve got a shot. Philosophy isn’t impacted, last I checked. Average admitted GPA was 3.53.

I’ve taken two so far and i got an A and a B. What percent chance would you give me?

You have a pretty good shot. Just make sure you try getting the highest GPA next semester. According to their Profile of Admitted Transfer Students 385 applied with 238 being accepted. As @nick_scheu said the average GPA was a 3.53.

I give you a 50% chance now, only because of the B in a major prereq. That’s a 3.5 major prereq GPA, below the average overall GPA. If you get A’s in the other two prereqs, I’d give you an 75% chance.

These percentages don’t really mean anything, of course. People have been rejected from Cal and UCLA with 4.0s, and accepted with 3.0s.

What grades were your other non-A’s in? It would be better if your B’s (and below) were in science or math, not English or poli sci.

thanks guys. can anyone else chance me please?

You have a good shot, make sure you keep up with TAP, get A’s in those two upcoming phil classes, and if your school has one, join the philosophy club at your school, specifically getting a top position in it (like pres or vice pres) or starting it at your school.

Your GPA is not half bad, but I would suggest doing something major-related before you apply an internship for example to cover some sins for the below average gpa. Since philosophy isn’t impacted, I would say your chances are about a 55%ish. Good luck!

thanks guys. i’m hoping TAP will push me over the edge…what do you guys think?
