I’ve applied for Fall 2016 in a non-impacted major and I would just like to confirm the GPA that UCLA actually considers. I’ve been on this forum and I’ve asked the question before but I’ve been told that UCLA only considers GPA up to Fall 2015. Well I came across the PDF above quite recently and decided to give UCLA a call since it is stated in the PDF guide that UCLA requires a GPA of at least a 3.2 in all transferrable courses. I called them and they told me that they will consider the GPA of all the courses up till Spring 2016. I don’t know who to believe now. I have a very bad GPA right now and I’m determined to pull it up next year. What do y’all think?
I think all UC’s would weigh freshman year quite heavily, since that’s the only completed academic year you’ve provided in the application. You will have to update the application with your fall 2015 grades, but because it’s only one quarter it won’t make much of an impact.
It’s actually two quarters or one semester. Two quarters can actually pull one’s GPA from a 3.1 to a 3.4
Spring grades don’t come out until May/ June of 2016. Admission decisions come out in April 2016. It wouldn’t be possible for Soring grades to be considered for admission. Fall grades yes. Winter grades maybe. Spring grades no.
BUT Spring courses are considered. And Spring grades can be part of the conditions of admission, but that’s only if you were already admitted. Spring grades can’t help you, they can only hurt you. If you don’t get admitted, getting all A’s in the spring won’t help. But if you ARE admitted, and you fail a course in the Spring, then your admission could be revoked.
The GPA they consider is the one that you have currently, with the Fall 2015 grades inputted. The Spring grades are not counted in your GPA this time around, but you will have to do well enough in them to satisfy the requirements of your provisional contract.
It’s odd, however, because I know that people on here have definitely gotten into UCLA with less than a 3.2. Apply anyway, and maybe things will turn out well. Worst case scenario, take another year to apply - a 3.4 will increase your chances, depending on which non-impacted major it is, of course.
Good luck.
