You need to figure out your UC GPA. Use the following website--and be sure to cap the GPA at 8 semester hours and use only your grades during your sophomore and junior years in high school. If you are in doubt about how to compute this, just post your grades and we'll figure your UC GPA for you.

Thanks, I'll post up my grades tomorrow after I pick up my transcript. thanks for the speedy reply!

Sounds good--I'll look for it tomorrow night--and I'm sure that other people will respond as well once you post this data.

Pomona is a reach

Strategos:

UCB/UCLA: Reach

thanks for the replies. what are my chances at appeal?

UC GPA: 3.821

Strategos, as you know UCB, UCLA and Pomona College are all highly competitive schools. Quite candidly, it appears that UCB and UCLA are both in the REACH category. With Pomona, it is a much smaller school where the admitted pool is equally small, though it draws a significant number of applications from high-achieving students. Given that I do not see anything truly standout in your EC's, and combined with your GPA and existing test scores, I think it is an Extreme REACH for you at Pomona.

Then is it a waste of time even applying to Pomona? Any other schools you would recommend?

If you like Pomona a lot, you should apply to Pitzer which is part of the Claremont Consortium w/ Pomona and is easier to get into compared to Pomona, which is a definte reach.

UC Appeal Chances are a crapshoot, it depends on how the yield percentage is at the particular UC and the particular sub-college of that UC that you appeal to is.

In Normal Admissions, one of my friends was rejected at most of the UCs yet got in on appeal to UCLA Engineering. So really it depends on the sub-college of the UC's yield.
