UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, John Hopkins???

Hey all, just wanted to know my chances at getting into UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, & John Hopkins University (i know this is a big reach).

-GPA: Unweighted4.0
Weighted 4.5 (my school caps at 4.5)
-Rank: Tied with another student for #1, all A’s so far

-SAT 1: 2060, retake in Oct.
-SAT 2: Bio M (710, retake in June), and I will take Math 2 and physics in june as well

-10th grade: Gate English 10, Honors Chem, AP Euro (4), Honors Math Analysis, Biomed Human Body Systems, Honors Spanish 3

-11th grade: AP Eng Lang, AP Physics 1, APUSH, Biomed Medical Intervention, AP Calc AB, AP Spanish 4
* I took all these AP tests, and I also self-studied and took the tests for AP Bio and APES, so 7 AP tests this year. Pretty sure i did ok on all of them, except physics :(( Hoping for National AP Scholar Award, but physics probably screwed me

-Planned 12th grade: AP Gov/econ, AP eng lit, AP Spanish 5, AP Stats, AP Bio (I know its redundant since i already took the test, but this is the only AP class i have left to take, Biomed Environmental Sustainability

-Extracurriculars: Interact Club (fundraiser 10th grade, president 11th grade, will serve as past-prez/board of directors senior year), NHS (VP senior year), Asian Culture Club (VP senior year), Spanish Honors Society (treasurer 11th grade, hopefully co-prez senior year, received bilingual certificate), Violin (associate concertmaster for high school orchestra 11th grade, concertmaster 12th grade), Chinese Zither -google it- (5+ years, played for many local events, received a lot of local awards, played live on National Public Radio twice), tutoring younger kids (paid though, not volunteer), CSF

-Volunteer: 75+ hours for Interact Club, 80+ hours for volunteering at an Alzheimer’s Adult Care Center, 20+ hours for the Chinese American Association of my county)

-This summer I will work at my local Cal state in a biology project with a Chevron funded program

-Chinese American, female

-I want to major in something like neuroscience (I’ve participated in the Chevron Project Lead the Way Biomedical program for all 4 years)
-CA resident

Please chance me!! Thanks!

  • forgot to mention that I take a 0 period orchestra class every morning, for 4 years. next year it will count as an honors class

bump :((

You’re pretty much set for UCSD. UCLA and Berkeley might be matches for you, but they are definitely higher matches than Johns Hopkins. You want to bring your SAT score up to atleast 2175-2200 just to be in the safe end. Good luck!

Why are you crying? You have a great GPA. Calm down.
Apply and see. If you want a ‘chance’, we can only judge by your numerical stats and maybe ECs. Yet to no avail, that is totally inaccurate as well.

So on numerical stats, you look like half of the applicants. Best of luck.

@StanfordSwag haha just going through a crisis…junior year has been tough… I know my GPA is decent, but I feel like my ECs aren’t “outstanding” and there’s not much I can do at this point.

Well don’t worry. Your GPA is great and that overcomes the lack of ECs.

Not everyone who gets into top schools, for example Stanford, has a 4.0. Some students excel in GPA, and some in ECs. It’s a trade off. Some students started their own company and launched their own products, did research at universities, but that costed them their GPA - but still get accepted. Then some get a perfect unweighted GPA at the cost of not having amazing ECs - but still get accepted.
