UCLA/UCB Admission question - kind of urgent

I wanted to know if the UC admission officers have a geographical bias when making their decision when admitting folks to UCLA or UCB (Cal) ?

I am from Northern Cal and really prefer UCLA over Cal, but am afraid of applying to both in case they see that I am from Northern Cal and admit me to Cal over UCLA.

I could just apply to UCLA, but I want to keep my options open -

What are my chances to get into UCB and UCLA ?

I have a SAT score of 2160 (710, 720, 730), ACT score of 28 and an a-g GPA of 4.05, and weighted GPA of 4.34

Rank 28 out of 330 (top 10%)
8 APs & 7 honors
Club & school soccer (5 years), JV Swim (1 year)
Nu Delta Alpha - 4 years
Save the African kids club - 4 years

Work internship during summer as a Data Analyst
Bunch of leadership and volunteer activities at Church, missions trip to Thailand and Mexico
World traveller to at least 10 countries
What are my chances of getting into UCLA or Cal ?

do you know if I can apply to 3 UCs - submit my app and then a day or two later - go back and add another UC (before the deadline) ?

I would say you have a pretty good shot at both schools; they will NOT admit you to Cal over UCLA just because you are from Northern Cali. The only geographical bias they exercise is in-state vs. out-of-state. If I’m not mistaken, you’re supposed to submit your app to all UCs to which you are applying at the same time. (I really don’t know why you wouldn’t… they’re all the same application unless you’re applying to a specific school.)

Calculate your UC GPA. It could turn out being alot lower than your weighted GPA.

they will definitely not prefer you based on geographical location in your case.

No, they won’t be biased when admitting students based on your geographical locations as long as you reside in California. From my experiences, a lot of NorCal students end up going to UCLA while many SoCal students end up choosing Berkeley.

It seems you have a pretty good shot at both schools based on your statistics. You had a few better scores than I did, and I still ended up here.
