UCLA Undergrad Switching Majors?

I'm going to attend UCLA as a first year undergrad in a few month, Go Bruins :D

Now, I'm pretty confused about switching majors at UCLA. Is it true that you can switch your major anytime before declaring a major, as long as you talk to the department first?
I've also heard that the major you put down when you applied does not matter because technically not official because you have not declared it. During your third year you will have to declare your major for it to become official. Is this true?
I applied my major as Molecular, Cell, and Development Biology. Lets say that i want to switch to Business/econ. Is that possible for a first year?

Can i take a few classes prior to switching? just to see if i actually like business/econ.

^yes to every question.

switching is painless and very quick. generally for lower division classes, no preference is given for “pre-majors” so everyone has an equal chance of getting in, depending on your class standing. so you can definitely take econ 1-2 41 etc. and see if you like economics before you switch.

Thank you very much! :D

I heard a lot of talk about how it is impossible to switch major as a transfer, so i was wondering if the same thing applies to 1st year undergrad as well.

Now i feel much better. Once again, Thank You!!
