No idea if this will help at all

Great recommendations

looks like I did a ton but actually I concentrated on BPA, Sports, writing, volunteering and Youth on board
The rest of the clubs i were in was a joke....spent very little time on them. mostly padding for my bad GPA

Dartmouth - not expecting to get in
U of Michigan - top choice as of now ( instate )
NYU - heard it has a good business program
Emory - dont know much about this one
Northwestern - heard it was good education for the $
UCLA - Cali....just for the weather, haha
westminster - dads a pastor
calvin college - ^

Any other recommendations?
Not much money so the cheaper the better.....basically the best for the money

I dont know much of the smaller, Liberal Arts schools so if you know any, post em!

oh please, unless the fact that most of your EC's were jokes comes through to the admissions directors, I'd say you have a damned good chance at all those schools, even dartmouth. Certainly a better chance at dartmouth than of the kids at my school who are applying.
I dont know exaclty what you mean that northwestern is good for the $... its just as expensive as any Ivy or Stanford, (although the education is just as good as well).. but their financial aid isnt that great.
I'm not so sure about Emory, its in georgia, after all, and take a harder look at UCLA, theres obviously much more to it than the weather. And if you want good weather, apply to UCSC or UCSD, LA only has good weather on the days that the sun is bright enough to shine through the gray-brown haze of smog.

KarmaKills:

Dartmouth: Reach
Michigan: Match
NYU: Match
Emory: Match
Northwestern: Slight Reach
UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)
Westminster: Safety (?)
Calvin College: Safety (?)

my cumulative gpa comes out to like 3.78 or 3.80 ish. Weighted, i believe. thats pretty low, especially since thier are at least 20 kids in my school with 4.0's

Karma, assuming you wrote good essays, you have a good shot at all those schools except maybe Dartmouth. Obviously, Michigan was a safety for you. In-state with 3.8+ Michigan GPA and a 1500+ on the SAT will pretty much guarantee you admission. Even Dartmouth is only a slight reach for you.

Good luck and keep us posted.

jw... what state are you from ? how about stanford ? good weather... well not as good as socal but still good.

edit: nm.. i see you're in michigan. have you thought about USC ? or harvey mudd ?

I just got an internship at a computerized accounting company....not paying much but its an internship. As i want to go into business, im hoping this helps.

Im just worried about my GPA.....most of my friends have 4.0's and are the ultimate overacheivers....it seems as if their parents like "built" them to go to harvard since they where kids.....im talking perfect gpa, incredible sat scores, pretty much every club our school offers....im feeling kinda nervous about my GPA. Having asian parents doesnt help much either

what other colleges can you get in with a 3.85~3.9 ish gpa with my other stats?
I tried on the SAT's to make up for my gpa. Never heard of harvey mudd or emory until i cam to this board, so any others, post them! Im thinking of upenn also because of business...but it seems out of my reach b/c of my gpa

umm... how about santa clara university... it's pretty close to stanford (location-wise)

ucla doesnt give THAT much preference to cali residents. it's an awesome school and in a great neighborhood....unlike usc!

what are you talking about ? it's a lot harder to get into UCLA if you're not a cali resident.

ptmagnolia is actually quite right. The acceptance rate for California residents is roughly 28%. For out of staters, the acceptance rate is like 20%. Mean SAT scores are almost the same. It is obviously harder for out of staters, but it is not night and day. UNC-Chapel Hill and UVA are more extreme.

well for ELC students... that is what the UC system considers "Eligible in the Local Context", what they calculate as the top 4% of each high school in cali.

edit: the acceptance rate for ELC students is around 52%

why aren't you expecting to get in to dartmouth?
your scores are good! what's your four years projected GPA?
you have better chance than I

Im not expecting it because of my gpa. Although people have told me a rising trend is a good thing, i think my gpa is still low for dartmouth. My projected 4 year gpa is between 3.85 and 3.9

fresh: 3.3 -> retook classes -> 3.6
soph: 3.4 -> 4.0 -> 3.75 overall
jun: 4.0 -> 4.0 -> 4.0 overall
proj sen.: 4.0

coming out of fresh. I was pretty ****ed off as I was reaching high but I was lazy and ended up just partying and not doing much...its a miracle i managed to pull off 3.4's given the amount of work i put in.

My essay is going to be about the "inspiration" i had to do better in school.

I plan on picking one college then going ED. It might be UofM however, based on this board and others as I dont know much about chances and such. Plus since its in state if I get in ED to uofM, Ill be paying a lot less than other top business schools.....A LOT LESS....if i get a scholorship that pretty much seals my decision. Unless I find out otherwise.

What do you guys think? Is u of M a really good business school? I dont want to pay twice as much and go to a school only slightly better than u of m. Im positive im going to be going into business as well.

I've seen other people on this board with 3.95's and 4.0's so im guessing my gpa is lower than average for dartmouth

"I've seen other people on this board with 3.95's and 4.0's so im guessing my gpa is lower than average for dartmouth"

The avg. Dartmouth GPA is 3.73 (Princeton Review's website). Obviously this is just an average, and people with higher get turned down all the time. You have a decent chance.

Karma, if you are intent on majoring in Business why bother with Dartmouth, Northwestern and UCLA? None of those schools have undergraduate Business programs. And do not bother with LACs. No LACs have top Business schools. A couple of decent Business schools, but they aren't that highly regarded. Why did you not apply to Wharton?

Anyway, if Business is your intended major, of the schools you applied to, Michigan and NYU are the top 2. Michigan is ranked slightly higher and is generally regarded as a slightly better program, but NYU is also very good and has great Wall Street opportunties. But, if you get into both and if money is an issue, it is a no brainer...go for Michigan. Slightly better, much cheaper and closer to home? Can't beat it. Besdies, Michigan has a nicer campus that actually feels collegiate, better sports and more school spirit! hehe

I personally like your chances at Dartmouth and Northwestern. If either of those two schools accepts you and gives you good aid, they are worth considering, even if they do not have Business programs. Michigan is just as good, but it is different. It really depends on what you want. But of all the schools you are looking at, those would be my top 3.

i just realized you want to major in business....usc has a really good business school and it's in LA.....crappy part of LA tho. still a really good school.

I haven't thought about upenn because of its high ranking....i thought dartmouth was a huge reach for me because of my GPA.
I guess I will look into penn.....early decision?

dude hella crazy... the acceptance rate for UCLA this year was 10%. on my acceptance letter it says this: "You are among an exceptional group of 4,300 students in our fall 2005 freshman class, and you were selected from the largest pool of university candidates in the nation -- over 42,000 talented and accomplished applicants!"

Essay about "inspiration" to do better in school.......how about something a bit more interesting and unique..im not bashing it, but you need to stand out
