So I want to transfer to either UCLA or USC. I live out of state and am a freshman at a university that's also out of state. I know my chances are less because I'm both out of state and did not attend a Cal Community College. Would my chances be better if I completed my sophomore year at a Cal Community College then applied to both schools, or should I stay here for the 2 years then apply junior year to UCLA/USC?

In addition, if I leave this university before I reach 30 credits, does that mean I can apply to the schools as a freshman?
