Which one would you guys recommend for a student looking to major in the political sciences and potentially going on to law school? And don't leave out the social experience comments, that matters. THANKS!

Be more specific about what you want out of college and post-grad opportunities, then the hivemind will assist.

law schools dont care about ur major…just get a high gpa in a major

come to UCLA…poli sci is soo easy…basically come to UCLA b/c those poli sci/history/anthro majors are a joke…and it will leave u with a high gpa and an abudant amount of time to socialize and participate in ECs to fluff ur law school app

nuff said

Wow, I’m in the same boat. Except I was not accepted to USC.

same here, except USC, i got in, poli-sci, concetration in International Relations, but Berkeley only has International Studies, so where should i go?

AMOSK - USC has just been given a $200 million dollar endowment. At UCLA and Berkeley, they are cutting back – reducing salaries, eliminating classes offered. I am a USC undergrad alum and a UCLA graduate school (film) alum. USC attracts better professors, has smaller classes, has incredible post-grad networking (better than UCLA) and an incredible Law School. That said, it is $50k a year as opposed to UCLA/Berkeley’s approx. $12k-15k (unless you are an out-of-state resident, and then it’s the same). I’m assuming you’re a California resident.

Daughter was accepted at all three with scholarships.

Another poster here talks about a similar choice base:

And, here’s a very interesting thread on potential probs at UCLA:

I got my BA from UCLA and now doing my MBA at USC
UCLA might be one of the best public schools
but if you want to have a better career path, USC for sure
USC has a really really strong network in California
if you are a science major and want to become a professor
fine, go to public school and do research
if your future career heavily depends on networking
private schools beat public school EVERY SINGLE TIME

I wouldn’t go that far yet: UCLA still seems to be attracting a stronger faculty. USC is good at trumpeting its success stories, but I’ll be more impressed with USC has better numbers with the national academies.

That said, an undergrad shouldn’t care. Top researchers ≠ top teaching.

Go to the campus you’ll be happiest at as a person. Generally speaking, UCLA, Cal, and USC are in the same grouping for admission to law school, so you’ll have a good shot at any of the schools for which your numbers are good enough.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I really appreciate it. What about the debt problems with UCLA & Berkeley? Should I be concerned? Jerry Brown cut 500mil I believe from the Cal system.
