Hello, I'm currently torn between the University of Michigan and UCLA. I know they are both great schools and that many of their programs rank similarly. I honestly would rather attended UCLA, but it would cost me more. I'm out of state for both schools and Michigan did have better aid. So is UCLA worth the price?

How much more would UCLA cost per year? And is it something your family could easily afford?

I will most likely have to take out loans for both schools, so I wouldn’t say it would easily be affordable. I’m not sure about the final numbers, but UCLA will probably cost between 6-8 thousand more per year. I don’t know if that is too much.

If you have to take out loans, the $25k more for UCLA over four years will most likely manifest itself in added debt. If that is the case, then I would have to say that Michigan makes better sense.

LA is a much more expensive place to live than A2 as well. Add a few grand to that debt…
