UCLA vs. Berkeley : Social Scene?

Hi, my college choice will most likely come down to either Berkeley or UCLA.

Berkeley used to be my top choice but as of late I am reconsidering UCLA.

The social atmosphere of a college is very important. I want to work hard, but at the same time have the maximum amount of fun possible. I am looking forward to joining a frat and partying.

So which school would have the advantage when it comes to the social scene and partying? Which school basically on the whole has the better parties?

My god, people really like to pretend as though the social scenes are different. They're not. Berkeley and UCLA are much, much more alike than people like to think. They say, "UCLA is just as good as Berkeley in academics," but they're not willing to make a similar leap and say, "The social scene at Berkeley is the same at UCLA." Really, there are parties. There are frats. There is fun. There is a social scene if you put yourself in it.

UCLA = better social scene , hands down
CAL = anti social noobs that tried really hard in high school and continue to have no lives in college

go to co l lege prowl er . com and look it up, the girls at ucla are A's while the girls at berkeley at C+'s

^^ post that again, and I'm reporting you. Stop trolling, lest you be banned.

post what?

Haha, another one of these? Trust me, if you're looking to party at Cal, it is so easy to find the social scene. People up here can party hard and work hard. We live the good life.

kchen i wish u could show me because i just can't get myself to believe it :(

Oh, you'll believe it if you're going to be here in the fall.

really? do you recommend joining a frat too? (i just got in today)

There are a lot of frats at Berkeley. The social scene is pretty good, but if you want to party a lot I would definitely recommend joining a frat. There are a lot of frats to join. Sometimes the social scene can be kinda dead though, although every Thursday/Friday/Saturday you should be able to find at least 1-2 parties.

I don't know much about UCLA, but I do think the girls are a little better looking there, on average. But I mean, if you're really going to decide based on that, mehhh.....

hi kyledavid. stop being such a boyscout wow.

I've visited Berkeley. Really laid back on campus, just all the girls are ridiculously ugly.

Haha. The sad part is, whenever this is brought up to a girl, they say "the boys here are worse" and I have a hard time arguing with that.

God I hope you aren't going to Berkeley...

I'm glad you are going to Berkeley.

^^ except, I'm not.

Anyone who tells you the social scenes at Berkeley and UCLA are comparable is kidding himself. UCLA is pretty much IN Beverly Hills and has access to all the chic hangouts LA has to offer. You're not limited to UCLA students either; you have Loyola, Occidental, and USC people to mingle with as well, not to mention Beverly's local hotties (in addition to hotties in West LA, West Hollywood, etc.).

Berkeley? Seedy area and your only options to party are at the frats, which are lame and juvenile for the most part. Many of the best parties are busted by cops (some ratted out by resentful male students who can't even get into the frats, due to low guy/girl ratio). Some parties are ghetto as hell, seedy and sketchy beyond comprehension. You'll feel like you're in the movie Menace II Society real quick.

UCLA has more social options in and beyond campus, Berkeley is limited to frat parties which are for the most part lame. Dissenters are mostly Berkeley trolls who try to overcompensate for Berkeley's grave problems. And I go to Berkeley, btw. HTH.

hey dejawu: i take offense to that ugly comment. i will be attending berkeley in the fall and do not consider myself to be ugly. stop stereotyping. smart does not equal ugly.

Oh yeah and in response to the "ugly girl" comment--they filter out if you go to the parties at night, but even then, the girls are nothing special. If you have the Asian fever, however, you might not be disappointed, but UCLA/USC Asians are on average much more attractive. Berkeley has more gunners than attractive people.

kitty... actually, it usually really does. and i can't help but imagine kittycat123 to be the username of some noob

i hate the superficiality of la. i like how berkeley girls are down-to-earth and don't spend 5 hours primping every morning. it's INCREDIBLY refreshing. if you want a high-maintenance chick who will drive you crazy with waiting for her to slather on her mask of makeup, by all means, call berkeley girls ugly and go for the superficial ones at la. just don't complain when the superficial girl gets old and wrinkly and makeup can no longer hide her deficiencies.
