UCLA vs. Cal

This thread is for anyone who was lucky enough to be accepted to both great schools, and now is faced with a tough decision between the two.

My impression of the two is that they are roughly equal in terms of academic stature, or at least that UCLA is rapidly approaching Berkeley's level. So it would mostly come down to a choice between the two locations, the distinct school atmospheres and campus activities.

Right now I'm leaning toward LA. Any thoughts?

i want to hear opinions too, I was leaning towards UCLA, but the video from the chancellor at UCB made UCB sound so much better!

I too am accepted into UCLA, Cal and Cornell (and hopefully Stanford tommorow also!). I too (I use this word too many times) want to know which one do you think looks good for a CS major.

For CS (you meant the EECS dept, right?), CAL hands down. If you get Stanford, you may choose between these two.

CAL's CS is actually running away in my opinion as far as the graduate program goes. UCLA's CS is also nice, but was better years ago.

UCLA Honors vs UCB Spring Semester ?

wah.. i'm so confused. originally i was leaning to Cal a lot but now that i found out it's for the spring semester.. maybe it'd be a better idea to go to LA.

i'm in the same boat as so save me. i'm not really that into the UCLA honors program, but i'm just trying to decide if i really want to go to Cal in the spring. i applied for biology and so Cal is obviously stronger but i'm not 100% positive that biology is for me. as long as the program at whichever college i attend is decent....what sucks most is that i have to decide before the FPF program for Cal fills up. =(

Ditto.. must.. decide. O_o I wonder how long it'll take before it fills up =O I applied undecided so I guess neither is stronger........ ehhh

Im in the same boat! Cal spring vs. UCLA Honors. Its a no brainer for me... UCLA! Although I most likely will not be going to either one..

I am definitely going to at least try to get in the FPF program. Do you guys know how to find the Enrollment and Payment Form (EPF) online? Everytime I click a link to the form, it leads me right back to the main acceptance page. I've looked everywhere for it! where is it?!

yeah, I'm a springlet too. I still don't know the deal with that--whether I just plain didn't make the cut for fall admission for Cal or whether it's arbitrary. but that's definitely a factor.

FPF sounds kinda cool, but that's not how I envisioned college starting out. it's like a false start, you know? UCLA can offer me most of what UCB can offer, and with a true and traditional college experience.

in my opinion, of course.

I'm stuck with this decision too!

I kinda wanted to get rejected at Cal... well, I'll let my trip to both schools decide (I get to fly for free to Cal!)

Now I know that I got into both CAL and UCLA, I'm happy but even more confused!! So what do you guys think I should pick? I'm a born and bred So Cal girl and love the weather, but Berkeley has my major. I've always been branded as the next UCLA grad in my mother's family and a CAL grad on my father's side. What should I do???

im all for Cal-since I'm doing Bio. and probably do research..

only turn off for me is that it's kinda gloomy/dirty there... but oh well. I can cope with that, can't I???

I got into Cal and UCLA Honors too... but I have no idea which one to choose.

After I go to UCLA Honors day and Cal Day I'll most likely have a better idea (hopefully). I'm just worried that Berkeley will be too competitive for me.

P.S. does Berkeley have an honors program too?

I don't think UCLA will ever reach Berkeley status, but it is pretty close.

I guess it depends on the major.

Engineering would go to Berkeley without a second's hesitation.
Medical might go to UCLA.

if your into athletics, UCLA.
if your into weather, UCLA
if your into hating USC, UCLA

if your into the competive nature, UCB
if your into the prestige from the World (i.e TIME's ranking), UCB
if your into hating Stanford, UCB

if your into the night life: Both.

i couldn't help but notice that you forgot one aspect... if you're into the hot chicas, UCLA.. hehe

UCLA seems to have a considerable amount of prestige on its own. The only question is whether you want to move to Berkeley on account of a few extra prestige points...

mm so confused on what to do if going into biochem/mcb.
LA's better in those fields apparently...but for undergrad, does either really matter that much? That is, if you're undecided if medicine/research is really for you, and haven't thought that far ahead into the future about med/grad school and such.

i'm afraid i'll miss out on something either way haha.

im accepted to EECS at berk but i want to go to LA :P wheeeee
