Interesting dilemma. My S is at CMU and did not apply to the dual program but he is pursuing a FA major with a minor in robotics. Robotics shares a lot of the prerequisites with computer science. Which other schools at CMU did you apply to for the dual program? Were you wait listed for those schools? There are many choices in terms of science, computer science and information technology and they are very, very different. Transferring to dual major in a biological science or stats or business or human computer interaction is more common. The computer science major is extremely, extremely tough and the transfer to double major is going to be hard because of the prerequisites. Two semesters of calc or a 5 on the BC calc test is a requirement. You canât take the two semesters of calc your first year because you are doing so much art. Taking it at another college in the summer may work but you have to pass their placement test no matter what. Also, my son had a full year of java and python in high school which helped a little since almost all the comp sci kids are complete whizzes at this stuff since they were 8. You have to want it and you have to do some work to prep for it. There are lots of alternative dual major and minors at CMU which will give you good technical skills without doing the martyrdom of comptuter science so take a looka t all the options.

Thanks for that input famom^You got at the specifics of what I was trying to say when I suggested the OP look deeply into requirements at each school. Just because a school is strong in multiple areas doesnât mean a student will be able to fully partake.

Bowman, My daughter was an Illustration major and âconcentratedâ in art history at RISD (they call âart historyâ something else, and minors are called concentrations, too). It was not difficult, she just focused her electives in that area. She originally thought about a concentration in history but settled on art history.

Dray45, can you send me a link to your portfolio please? I am applying to ucla this year but I donât know what the school is looking for?conceptual or traditional art ? Thank you.
