If you are referring to my post, I don’t understand what you mean because I wasn’t “shouting down” anyone nor do I feel my reasons for posting should be labeled right or wrong. And I expect the same would be true for soozievt. A new user posted some inflammatory comments about the school my S attends and I responded. I didn’t question the legitimacy of the poster, just pointed out that I believe that there is more to the story and clarified for other potential Theatre applicants that the comments do not refer to the Lincoln Center campus. But whether or not bxvillemom is a legitimate user, she DOES have an agenda here as she revived this thread to make statements about Fordham and women intended to warn girls or parents of girls considering Fordham about the “terrible” administration. Perhaps she does know two girls, of the thousands of Fordham students, that had problems with sexual harrassment/date rape/physical abuse and they were dissatisfied with Fordham’s response. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Fordham’s administration handled these situations poorly or consequently that they handle ALL situations poorly.

Yes. Unfortunately date rape and sexual harrassment do happen at any school and it makes me really sad. But again, we just don’t know what, if anything, happened here. It’s possible that something happened and it wasn’t handled well just as it’s possible that Fordham investigated and found the complaint to lack credibility. I don’t claim to know what does or does not happen at all schools nor do I claim to know everything about Fordham but the accusation of an unsupportive and vindictive administration is just so far from the Jesuit principles of the university I have come to know and I am the parent of a student, not just somebody who knows somebody. I can tell you with all certainty that yes, Fordham DOES revoke scholarships. And in every case I have ever heard about, it’s because the recipient dropped below a 3.0 GPA or failed to file the FAFSA, both of which are requirements.

There are several different issues floating around this conversation. And for me, what started it was a post by a new user making an unsubstantiated accusation against Fordhams Rose Hill campus administration. Her further absence from this conversation is duly noted.

I agree with soozievt that potential applicants should not think twice about applying to what could be a terrific match school based on a post on an internet forum or other peoples comments and opinions. I always recommend that people gather as much information as they can and from a variety of sources to form their own opinion. I think the link soozievt posted can be truly helpful in that as it relates to this issue and it’s directly from Fordham, not an opinion from me or an opinion from anyone else.

Perhaps there IS a need for consistency among colleges to handle these types of cases just as surely as there is a need for further education of young men and women to decrease the number of assaults. That is a different conversation and since I am fortunate enough not to know the first thing about it, I will leave that up to others more knowledgeable on the subject. And glassharmonica and fishbowlfreshman, I am truly sorry that both of you DO have some knowledge of the subject based on experiences in your own lives.
