I was recently accepted to UCLA (pre-economics) and NYU (CAS economics), but I’m having a hard time deciding between the two…
Overall, UCLA is ranked better, however NYU is ranked better for the econ major. I’m American but I’ve lived abroad my whole life so it would be nice to be at a school with other international people. Also, I’m looking for a school that will help me in finding a good job after graduation.
Other than that cost is not a huge factor.
Any suggestions?
Are you in-state for UCLA? Can you afford NYU tuition and living in New York?
I’m not in state but like I said cost isn’t a factor. I’m mostly concerned with job placement and a fun college experience
What do you want to do after graduation?
@Vctory I’d like to work in the private sector for a few years and then get a masters
@smouf3 What field? Banking, accounting, think tank, consulting, &c?
@Vctory consulting preferably!
If you’re looking for a fun college experience definitely go to UCLA. UCLA places pretty well in LA and the Bay area and you’ll have a more traditional college experience compared to NYU. NYU also places very well but lacks in that “college feel”.
For consulting, the big three firms recruit at both schools. BCG, however, only lists Stern on their page for NYU, whereas with UCLA they also include “all undergraduates.” This means they may not recruit outside of Stern. But again, this is only for one of the three firms. I’m sure many of the smaller and more mid-sized firms recruit at both schools.
I would try to decide what coast you’d prefer to live on, what weather you’d like, etc. Both universities are pretty equal and are likely to carry with them similar opportunities.
