UCLA vs NYU vs Cornell... need help deciding!

hey everybody, this is my first post but i was hoping someone could help me with this
ive narrowed my choices to NYU UCLA and cornell for next year. i dont really know what i want to study yet, so flexibility is something im looking for, but most likely ill end up studying premed or biology. i was wondering where these schools stand in terms of prestige, as far as medicine goes.
id also really like to maybe minor in film or creative writing or something like that, so i want to find a school that could allow me to do that.
Location is also pretty important. id like to be in a big city i think because it seems like it would have more opportunities.
anyways id just like to hear some of your thoughts, and if you were in my position where would you choose to go.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Cornell is definitely the most prestigious of the 3 schools. It looks like your looking at the sciences and need flexibility, Cornell has one one the most esteemed, comprehensize science programs in the country, easily (as well as a Top 5 creative writing program). NYU and UCLA are obviously in bigger cities but Cornell will still give you more oppurtunites at graduation despite being in a rural setting. Since you’re also looking at medicine I’d put UCLA at #2. Cornell>UCLA>NYU

would you say that all three are top tier schools though?
like would any of these schools provide an advantage when applying to med school, or will all of them look good on an application?
also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of a large public university compared to a smaller private university when considering pre-med? Does being in a large city allow for more opportunities for research and working in a hospital?
thanks once again for any help?

Those are all three great schools. If you really want to be in an exciting city then NYU is the place to be. UCLA is also a fantastic school but LA is a different city and not quite as large as NY. As said above, I would say that Cornell has the most prestige and renowned science program. Being that it’s an ivy it will look awesome on your resume whenever you look for a job or want to get into med school and it is an overall great school. Yet, I think all of the schools mentioned would look good on a resume. Opportunities wise I believe that during school at a place like NYU there is much more to do. You can get an internship or job during the school year because you are in the center of the city. In other places you usually wait until the summer. Although once you graduate it probably wont be hard to find a job if you come out of UCLA or Cornell as well. All three of your choices are great. Good luck!

can anyone comment on the student life at cornell? is there a lot to do, or does it get old after a while?
i think the main factor in my decision will be caampus life since all three schools seem to have great academics. i really like the idea of living in LA or NYC, but i dont really know what it would be like to live in Ithaca. If anyone can shed some light on this it would help greatly. also thank you to those who’ve replied already.

For med school apps, I would guess that your undergrad academic performance and MCAT scores are far more important than a nuanced comparison of these three fine schools.

NYU is a true city school with no campus. If that’s you, go for it but do not expect the typical college experience.

We visited Cornell recently with my D and loved it. It is a terrific mix of natural beauty, campus energy, really broad and strong academics and a very active social scene (greek life is big). Ithaca seems like a decent college town; but you must go in knowing the winters are long, skies are usually gray and it snows a lot.

I’l leave UCLA for others to comment on, since I know very little about it.

Best of luck with your decision and beyond…
