UCLA vs Regents at SD

Hey guys,

So I know that this is the LA board so it might be a little biased, but I need help making a decision.

I got Regents at SD, but not at LA, so it would be like 8,000/year cheaper for me to go to SD. However, I visited both campuses, and I really, really love LA.

Do you think that I should go to SD because of the financial aid?
I'm planning to major in Chem and then go on to medical school, so I think that I can pay off my debt easier if and when I become a doctor (yeah, i know it's not a guarantee, but fingers crossed)

I know that 8,000 is a lot of money, but then I feel like I would have a happier and better undergraduate experience at LA.

I'm in Revelle at SD, if it matters.

if you are using loans to pay id suggest ucsd. if money isn’t an issue (ie your parents are willing to pay) then go where you like more (ucla in your case)

both schools are very strong (although ive heard revelle is a biotch in terms of requirements)

^True Revelle is a biotech in terms of requirements (perfect for medicine). But you probably meant a *****.

^lol yea that’s what i meant…

Yea they are both great and awesome schools. UCLA probably has a better prestige overall, but UCSD is not far behind. Most students I know starting work in their freshman year (either on campus or off campus for part time), so I don’t think money would be a very big issue at the end. But go to a school that meets your academic needs and also personal needs (your overall well-being). College is once in a lifetime experience, and you should choose a place in where you will be happy.

Thats alot of money…go to sd.

$8.000 a year is perhaps not a lot of money. $32,000 over four years. I’m assuming even if you take out loans, that is quite managable on a 20 year payback.

Most posts here on CC ask about $100,000 loans (the difference between USC full pay and UCLA full pay).

You will do equally well at either school. UCSD premed is every bit as respected as UCLA premed, perhaps even more because of the biomed preeminence.

Since both schools will provide you an equally good avenue to your goals, you now have only to decide if you like UCLA $32,000 more than UCSD.

I know I would other factors being equal – however, does Regents give you class registration priority? If so, I’d pick UCSD.

UCSD does give me priority registration, but I’m not all that worried about registration because I have some AP credits/units under my belt. Hopefully that will help me out enough. :)

May 1 is coming up! Eeek! :I

My regents only gave me 2k per year? which is 8k total.

I think the amount of the regents scholarship is based on your EFC…

UCLA is not 32K better than UCSD. Take the Regents
