Hi! I’m a high school senior who is planning on majoring in biology to become a veterinarian. I was recently accepted by Rice and UCLA. Both schools are out-of-state for me, so the cost would be very similar. Both are about the same distance from my home (UCLA is a little closer). I understand that I will have more research opportunities and smaller classes at Rice. However, I love the UCLA campus, its location, and the weather there. I’m having a really hard time picking between the two because both factors matter to me. If anyone could give me some advice, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
If you are going to become a vet, don’t you think it would be prudent not to spend so much on your undergrad?
That’s $60K per year for UCLA.
@aunt bea, yes that is true, but because many people end up changing their majors and future careers, I may not even end up going to vet school. Since I’m not completely sure if a I want to be a vet or if I will even end up in grad school, I want to go to a college that I really love as an undergrad.
^^
Either way, going to UCLA as an OOS is silly. If you don’t go to vet school, was is your Plan B?
What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay?
Where else have you been accepted?
LA > Houston BUT I’d pick Rice over UCLA for the smaller classes and excellent student body.
@insanedreamer Thanks!
@mom2collegekids I don’t have everything completely planned out yet because I’m only a high school senior, but my parents are willing to pay for me.
