UCLA vs UC Berkeley college life

So I am a transfer student that just got into UC Berkeley and UCLA, and of course I am having trouble deciding between the two. Both have pros and cons:

Berkeley pros:
- higher prestige
- best English program in America (I'm an English Major)
- change of scenery, living in the Bay Area and near San Francisco
- semester system calls for more in-depth learning

My uncertainty about Berkeley is the amount of competition. I don't like being competitive, and would rather be part of a school that isn't obsessed with comparing grades and one upping one another. Also, since I am from Los Angles, I am unsure of the overall vibe of Berkeley, as well as the weather. Is it hard to adjust to? Finally, I want to be able to make the most of my experience at college. Is it socially dead at Berkeley? Are the students welcoming, or more stand-offish? Plus, how is the campus? (On a side note, is it true that Berkeley students are unattractive...)

As for UCLA pros:
- close to home
-newer facilities
- quarter system, so I would be able to take more classes
- [probable] better social life

I don't want to choose UCLA because it is safe. What is drawing me to UCLA is that I might have a better social life and therefore a better college experience. I am attracted to the idea of newer (and thus, cleaner) facilities, plus the better food. At this point, I am assuming that I would be more comfortable, living-wise, at UCLA, but at Berkeley I would have a more foreign experience. Diversity is all so a concern, since I want to be able to interact and befriend different kinds of people.

Anyways, if anyone from UCLA and Berkeley could shed some light on their school, I would really appreciate it!
P.S. For people who are at UC Berkeley and reside in LA, how is it transitioning, in terms of socially, environmentally, etc.

Also, I’m pretty 50/50 on this situation, and have been leaning back and forth between the two schools. Berkeley is also giving me about five thousand dollars more to attend, which is also an attraction to that school.

which did you end up choosing? I’m in the same boat rn
