UCLA vs. UCB

I'm really torn between UCLA and Berkeley. Although I have more financial aid at UCLA(so I'm somewhat leaning towards that school), Berkeley may make up for it in some areas. I need opinions. I would like you guys to rank the schools in the following categories on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest.

1.academics
2.social life
3.city life
4.extracurricular activities
5.feasibility of obtaining internships
6.ease of obtaining undergraduate research.

And please tell me which school you would choose and why(doesn't have to relate to the above [i.e any reason]). Thanks.

academics
1. berkeley
2. ucla

social life
1. ucla
2. berkeley

city life
1. ucla
2. berkeley

extracurricular activities
look at social life and city life

feasibility of obtaining internships
becuase there will be so much competition at both schools, in general it wont be a matter of obtaining one its a matter of being proactive looking for them. people dont hand you things at either schools.

ease of obtaining undergraduate research
read above. people dont hand you things you have to be proactive and look for them.

i'd choose ucb, because i wouldn't want to be in la, knowing that theres usc, i didn't choose or get into.

but if i didn't like usc better than ucla, i'd say probably go with ucla, its more my personality. you need to make the decision on what fits better, which means GO VISIT THE CAMPUSES and then decide. in general i think the decision is negligable. it's not like you're choosing between UCB and UCR. Dont let rankings influence your decision. go for the school that your gut tells you to go to. Think about it this way, you're at UCB, do you think you'd wonder if UCLA would have been the better choice, or wonder what it would have been like had you gone to UCLA. Then picture yourself at UCLA, do you think UCB would have been the better choice, etc?

Go visit, the two schools are VERY different. At Cal everyone walks and the atmosphere is more laid back. The city of Berkeley is also very college oriented and you can easily hop on BART to go to SF (or wherever else you want). UCLA students are more concerned with outward appearance (read: shallow =P). Westwood is also much more ritzy than Berkeley...I simply never got that college vibe from UCLA.

Anyway, for your rankings...
- Academics -
Cal > UCLA

Social Life -
Equal, social life is what you make of it. Both schools have pretty large greek systems if that's what your into.

City Life -
Berkeley >> UCLA

Extracurricular Activities -
I don't know what you mean by this...I'd say they're equal?

Feasibility of Obtaining Internships -
Equally easy, you just have to know where to look!

Ease of Obtaining Undergraduate Research -
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Berkeley has more faculty members associated with it (and it has LBNL) => Berkeley > UCLA

Naturally I'm biased toward Berkeley (also I hated living in SoCal)...I reiterate, you really need to visit both schools!

I always love these sorts of questions, because the responses usually go like this:

"Both schools are great. But really, school Y is way better than X because of ____. The students at school X are a bunch of jerks.

But seriously, just go to the school you like the most."

Schools are a strange thing. So much grandstanding and petty jealousy. :p

But really, here's my opinion: Both are good. Visit both. Go with feel. It's really that simple, since the cost isn't a huge factor for you. It's that simple in my mind.
