recently i was accepted to UCSB (out of state) does that mean I have a good chance at UCLA or is UCLA much harder to get into than UCSB?

My understanding is that UCSB is an EXCELLENT school which had 68,000 apps this year. Each school has its strengths and weaknesses.

With less than 20,000 students at UCSB and 68,000 apps, their acceptance rate will probably be less than 10% if you assume 5000 students per class level. I assume it will be around the same for UCLA.

There is no comparison. UCLA is much more difficult to get into. Average SAT scores are 120 points higher on average.

I agree with Fishon5…however, on the upside i think ucs are taking more OOS because of costs…on the downside about 92,000 people applied for smaller spots so no one really knows whats on UCLA’s mind right now about who they are going to accept

To echo the others, SB is definitely a great school but it’s not exactly on the same level as LA, and it does have a party reputation that people are sometimes quick to judge about.

SB is an excellent alternative, but not very applicable in terms of trying to figure out if you got into LA.

UCSB is very well respected, but UCLA is comparable to the Ivy’s and known around the world. UCSB has an acceptance rate of aprox. 45%, UCLA accepts 21%.

UCLA, first of all, is comparable to a lower ivy league schools. Crazy competitive. Second best public school. ~21% acceptance rate now. Top at engineering. A lot of noble prize professors (I thinks it 35). You can’t get better than that. Known around the world too

Berkeley is the “Ivy” UC, not UCLA. UCLA is an excellent school, depending on the degree. UCSD, UCSB, Davis are also very high quality educational institutions as well.
