UCLA vs UCSD (regents) for CS

My son has received Regents scholarship from UCSD and he has also received a likely letter from UCLA. So, it seems that he will be accepted at UCLA. The scholarship money at UCSD is not much, but there might be other benefits of Regents.

Which one should he choose? Which one is better in terms of academics, teaching and research? Can UCSD or UCLA students share their thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

From my limited experience in applying to the UC’s, I’ve come to the conclusion that Regents scholarships are verrryyyy beneficial.
For UCSD in particular, the perks include:
priority registration (yay)
mentorship Junior Year (there are some additional reqs, however)

You can read the full list: https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/types/scholarships/freshmen/regents-scholarships.html
You can also call the Scholarship Office itself if you have more specific questions (858) 534-1067

Personally, if I had the choice between LA and SD Regents, I would go for the latter. But it really depends on your son’s thoughts. Where will he be happier? Which location does he like better? (The weather varies quite a bit; SD is closer to the coast and probably is cooler due to those coastal winds. LA traffic is notoriously slow) Where will he get more opportunities? And so on.

agree with post #1. Priority registration is a big plus, but its not a plus to register earlier for classes at a school you’re not happy to attend.

Seriously? You think there is some difference in how they teach or what they teach undegrads between these 2 schools?

I agree with post #2 which agrees with post #1. Go where you like it better, both excellent choices. Priority reg is great, but not if you don’t like the school as mikemac said. You will eventually get the classes you need either way, just might take one earlier in the morning without priority reg
