Please help me choose between UCLA engineering, UCSD engineering, and Occidental physics or 3-2 engineering program. I have visited and really like all three of these schools, so I am sort of lost! I want a college experience but also good academics.

BTW, I put down civil engineering for UCLA and structural engineering for UCSD, but I am not at all set on that.

They’re all good schools- congrats on getting in :)

UCLA and UCSD are much, much bigger than Occidental- ~27k and 22k respectively vs. <2k. UCLA and UCSD will also probably be less expensive, even if you’re OOS.

Choose UCLA or UCSD if you want to be able to start engineering right away (as opposed to 3-2) and if you like the idea of a bigger school. Choose Occidental if you don’t mind either majoring in physics, or doing the 3-2 engineering program, and you like the idea of a smaller school.

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to mention that they are pretty much all the same cost-wise with scholarships and whatnot. Also, I would be a Regent’s Scholar/Honors Program student at UC San Diego.

Congratulations…all three are great schools! Your decision really depends on which type of environment you think you will thrive in, and also your financial considerations. My oldest S is a senior at UCSD. He was also accepted at UCLA, but he felt much more comfortable at SD. He’s had classes with up to 500 students (lectures), but he likes to “blend in”, so it works for him. S #2, a HS junior, has toured Oxy twice and loves the small-school feel. He likes to engage in discussion, and be able to actively participate in class. What type of environment do you see yourself doing your best in? Financially, though, it would be hard for us to pass up your opportunity at SD.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide!
