I haven't watched a Cal game? Girl, you don't know me.

I know more about college football than anyone on this board. I get paid to watch and decipher college football. That's why i'm going to school, to build on my career and to work for a professional sports team.

That National Championship game has nothing to do with USC's quality of their defense. They faced a once-in-a-generation player who beat anyone he faced with the exception of Oklahoma. They lose a heisman winning back. Big whoop. Didn't they lose Carson Palmer a few years ago, and how did they replace him? With someone who won 32 games in a row. I remember when they had Justin Fargas, and he was the man, who was actually a projected 1st round pick. How did they replace him? With a Heisman winner and a back who you said "could have started on any other team"

USC is a fooball dynasty. They reload. They are the "it" school. Every recruit wants to go there. It was Miami a few years ago, but Coker has run that program to mediocracy. They won 32 games in a row, and we're talking about them losing to CAL? That's a joke. Cal is a system team. They have some talent, i'm not going to deny that, but they rely on their coach's dink-and-dunk system.

First of all....girl?

Anyways, dynasties come to an end, and I believe this is the year. For example, anybody knows that Tenn, Miami, FSU, Mich, Florida can all be mentioned in the same breath as USC. What do all these schools have in common (USC included)? They were all dynasties at some point but also all flopped at some point. So who is to say thats its not USC's year to flop? Some guy who gets paid to "decipher" college football?

Also, Cal has "some" talent? They went 8-4 in a rebuilding year, a year in which they had two 1,000 yard rushers (ok, one actually had 999 yards), and a year in which there were 3 starting QBs throughout the season. So just watch out for Cal this year. They're gonna surprise lots of people on Sept 2nd when they play Tenn.

too much animosity in this thread.........

What did you expect from a UCLA vs. USC thread? And Cal's always thrown in at some point.

lol....... and where did cal come in from?

The 2nd post thats where.

A2Wolves, I'm wondering who you write or scout for? I webmaster a pretty well known NFL draft site, maybe I've heard or read you. Plus coming in condescending like "I know more about college football than all of you" is no way to make friends or get ahead in your scouting career if you're serious about it. From my years of watching college football, one thing I've definitely learned is that it's just retarded to make absolute predictions about the season before fall ball even starts. Players get hurt, teams take time to gel, overlooked guys blow up and big shots flame out. That's part of what makes college football so exciting in the first place. You can never really trust how an 18, 19, 20 year old kid is going to develop anyway.

Man McGizzle, I would much rather read anything u put out instead of A2Wolves. Do u have a column online?

I don't write the columns but I manage www.nfldraftblitz.com (there's the plug, now click on the ads). The columns are pretty interesting, and our president has scouted in the NFL and Arena league (he's built some great contacts). I don't really have much time to write a regular column between school and my real day job (during the summer), I mostly just get off in debating on message boards (and real life) and talking with a couple guys I know who are in the game. If people only knew half the politics and half the things that happen behind the scenes.

Lmaonade.

Complaining about animosity when you STARTED A THREAD ENTITLED UCLA V USC?????????

Oh, the naivete. You do not KNOW animosity. I think the discourse in this thread has been particularly and astonishingly friendly. You have no idea how ugly this could've been (and with any luck, might still be! 'tis early yet!). But it's fun ugliness, so who cares.

Meanwhile, I'm loving the McGizzle v A2wolves showdown.

Carry on.

Lol. Yes carry on, while I stand in the back and support MGizzle.

I don't understand where all the animosity is coming from.

We are all privilleged to attend any one of the aforementioned universities.

Because sometimes good natured ribbing among rivals (or maybe even non-rivals) can be fun.

And yes, we are privileged and lucky and blessed and blah blah blah.
Doesn't mean we can't make fun of each other over silly things. Has nothing to do with it, actually.

/But again, I say: what animosity? Other than the random football knowitall, I see little conflict.

There's animosity because these are all great schools. Really, in the big scheme of things, there's not a whole lot that separates Cal from UCLA from USC. In fact, they might be the schools that are most comparible to each other. But it's fun to hate on each other. I agree with allie, you guys have not seen real hate yet. This is pretty good natured. Besides what fun is it to pick on the UCSB's and UCI's and SDSU's of the world? How are they gonna respond back? They got nothing. Sheer numbers of veneral disease or Chinese students does not make good smack talk. At least with Cal and SC students they can tell us how bad our football team is.

In that case, we should pick on CalTech.

Never mess with CalTech, they're too good with pranks. Plus who actually knows anyone there? They have like 500 students (490 of them male). I've known one guy who goes there and he's a giant fatty that no one really likes (for reasons besides his fatness). Basically, I don't deal with Cal Tech, as long as they're tracking our earthquakes and satellites they're ok with me.

HAHAHAHA indeed.

CalTech is a totally different kind of animal. A few antisocialish smart guys in Pasadena can't really compete with the awesomeness of monster institutions like LA and SC and Cal. Other than the prank skills, they don't have much going on (well, and you know, the brilliance).

We fight bc we're similar and relatively equal (at least academically, let us stay away from sports plz).

ha, its the usc-ucla-cal love triangle.

Stanford must feel left out :(
