These two neighbors have been rivals for years; which is better?? (purposely worded in vague terms...hehe another thread!)

USC sucks...some things are just that way. =P

Didn't OJ go to USC? Ergo, if you go to USC you will kill people and get away with it.

...if you go to USC you will kill people and get away with it.

Hmmm... Now I'm starting to wish I had gone to USC! :)

Lol
.......

UCLA. Period.

The new Ronald Reagan Medical Center (new, beautiful, modern) will undoubtedly be better than County-USC hospital (old, dilapated, and ugly).

UCLA overwhelms USC in population...let's see 'SC take 32,000 students on.

UCLA has new dorm rooms their buiding (North Rieber and Hedrick Summit).

A wide variety of majors; ALL excellent.

A beautiful campus located in Westwood, home to movie premieres. It is near Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. 'SC? The ghetto.

Exilo, I don't think the syllogism works. Read The Uses of Argument by Stephen Toulmin, a well known rhetorician. He discusses logic and how the mathematical logicians don't quite have it there. He states that logic should be treated as "generalized jurisprudence." The Toulmin model is quite well-known.

Oh yes, the new hospital will be gorgeous. I've looked at the concept drawings - they look so sweet. It is one of the first buildings in California built to new earthquake specifications and will be able to withstand a magnitude 8.5 quake. It will also be one of the first hospitals with the capability to be completely paperless. I remember hearing about how it will have a massive wireless network and all digital X-rays, etc. Obviously, since it will still have to be able to network with the current health-care system, there will still be paper charts, but I love the advances.

http://www.ucmt.org/westwood/updates/News/operating_Room_2D27_equipment_installed.jpg is a picture of one of the completed Operating Rooms - it looks great... plasma screen on the wall, all new shiny equipment... I love it.

However, I must say that if I end up deciding to do Emergency Medicine or Trauma Surgery (two specialties I am strongly considering), my first choise of location for a residency is County-USC.
All right, thats the end of my medical rant.

Eiffel,

I beg to differ. Where would our world be without gross generalizations? I suppose you would be more understanding if you weren't a French lover. =P

Seriously though, the new Hospital looks great. I was down there during the summer and I became even more enthralled with the campus. I want to go to UCLA Medical School so getting there for xfer would be a step in the right direction.

Icarus,

Agreed. I too want to work in a stressful environment because I hope to go into emergency medicine. I got a taste of it while working as an EMT and it was then I knew for sure what I wanted to be.

Right on exilio - lol when i first read that first part of your post, I wasn't sure if it was sarcastic (still not, really haha). Anyway, where did you work as an EMT? I'm an EMT for UCLA EMS. (www.ems.ucla.edu)

And yes, UCLA med would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath. With only 100 spots and being one of the most applied-to med schools, things don't look good. However, a lot of their class comes from UCLA undergrad, so thats a good thing.

What about the California NanoSystems Institute being constructed right next door?
http://www.cnsi.ucla.edu/mainpage.html

I'll bet USC can't boast about that...

I worked for a podunk ambulance company called Westmed. We did mostly pt transport, especially since I was just a lowly EMT. ;)

And while the competition may be stiff for spots, the medical schools very presence will inspire me to persevere on long and lonely nights with my textbooks. Hell, when I apply to a med school, I will be happy to get into just about any where..as long as it's not the Caribbean. =P

haha agreed - I'll be happy to go wherever I get in...I'm not too picky. I really like the UCLA model of learning (PBL) - good didactic training

Thats what I love about UCLA EMS - completely student-run, and we only handle 911 calls; no IFTs. You should consider applying when you get in - easily the best job on campus. :)

Flopsy, it took me a while and a visit to the online map to figure out which of the new research buildings the CNSI is lol. I'm excited for all that new lab space to be finished - there will be a lot of interesting stuff going on.

Exilo:

Hahahaha. Making "gross generalizations" is a pet peeve of mine. :)

And as for my S/N, somehow TrafalgarGuy87 (for England, another country I would like to visit) doesn't have the ring to it. Of course, during the Hate France months, I entertained the thought of "FreedomGuy87" ;)

Yes, UCLA overwhelms USC in population...that's why you have really huge lecture halls with 700+ people in it...haha

UCLA may be home to some movie premieres, but guess what? USC alumni are make most of the movies that come out.

And about the ghetto...the people living in the surrounding people aren't bad people. USC is working to improve their condition through community service and other programs.

"UCLA overwhelms USC in population...let's see 'SC take 32,000 students on.

All I heard was...USC SUCKS!! USC SUCKS!!

You ar ein the wrong forum dude...beat it. =D

Just kidding. But USC does suck..unless I don't get into UCLA..then I won't care...it's just fun to have a crosstown rival.

"And about the ghetto...the people living in the surrounding people aren't bad people."
Have you ever been to the ghetto?
I live in the ghetto, and believe me it is not pretty, at night you can hear the shooting. Later you get used to it. Anyhow I have failed to see a USC student volunteer at a school that is neer my home.

However if you do visit the campus one is able to tell the difference between the ghetto from the campus.

too bad USC has won 2 national football titles in a row...
and swimming
and waterpolo
and has steven spielberg as an alumni...among others
and was ranked americas best college all around in the 2001 issue of TIME magazine...last time i checked..it wasnt UCLA's name on the cover

who gives a **** if its in the ghetto...so is columbia and its an ivy league is it not?

better education. better athletics. richer, smarter and better people in general...usc is the place to be. haha

please dont take offense to this post!! i <3 usc!!

Well at least they didn't name a form of birth control after UCLA...so there! =P`````

which basketball team hasnt won a pac-10 game yet? raise your hand!

which basketball team upset the #12 team in the nation and is now on top of the pac-10? yeahhhhhhhh

hey caligirl, what happened during the 90's? Yeah, SC got owned by UCLA football. And it was more than just two in a row.
Oh, and the NCAA titles - UCLA has more than any school in the nation - not too shabby for a relatively young university.

better education. better athletics. richer, smarter and better people in general...usc is the place to be.

I'm sorry, but UCLA definitely trumps SC in all of those respects, perhaps save for the richer part, but that doesn't matter (although it was noted in the daily bruin last year that the average household income at UCLA is well over $100,000). And as for being the place to be... is that why I see all the USC students in Westwood every weekend? ;)
Better med school, better hospital (the things I really care about haha), etc. etc. etc.

hahaha rivalries are fun.
