I love USC.

In fact, it's my favorite school in South Carolina.
Fight on, Gamecocks!

um....steven spielberg is an alumni from cal state university long beach, not usc. although usc does have many equally successfull film alumni....

george lucas, john singleton, bryan singer, robert zemekis, brian grazer, will ferrel.

but so does ucla...

dan castalenetta, francis ford coppolla, billy crystal, nancy cartwright. and dont forget that jim morrison went to ucla.

both schools rock. can't we all just get along?

USC stands for University of Second Choice and University of Spoiled Children in my books. Its academic program is inept(although the alumni network is good)

Noun: Rivalry -
The act of competing (the opposite of "getting along")

=D

Ask anyone, and they'll probably say UCLA. It's more well-known and sought after.

Guess who won this year's NCAA Men's Waterpolo Championships? UCLA.

I don't see any USC posters attempting to defend the County-USC Hospital compared to the Reagan Med Cntr. We'll see in a few years who has the better trauma unit then.

Yes, Columbia is an Ivy League. USC is not. So, breaking my gross generalization pet peeve, it is okay for Ivy Leagues to be in ghettos, but not sub average schools.

"Smarter and better people"? Show me the stats please. If you don't have the figures, you don't have the right to make the statement. Unless being prone to public error is your thing. I don't think "better" people use the "f" word; respectable people refrain from vulgar language; but hey, what do you expect from a school located in a horrible area? Vulgarity.

Sure USC is full of richer students; who can afford to pay $40,000 for room and board and tuition for sub-average education?

700+ in lecture halls? Not quite so. You're off by a few hundred. Plus, motivated students don't need hand-holding. If you want hand-holding and the professor caressing you, then by all means, go to USC. UCLA is for motivated students.

You're quite right Icarus, I do love rivalries.

Oh, please don't take offense to this post!! <3 UCLA

EiffelGuy, I'm not a fan of USC but the medical center is one of the best places in the country for learning trauma work. All the victims in the 77th precinct (among other places) are sent there and they get a lot of work.

Give USC credit where it's due.

I do believe that Icarus mentioned that; I also made the comment that "We'll see in a few years who has the better trauma unit then," implying (hopefully) that County-USC does have the better trauma unit at the present.

Nonetheless, credit should be given where it's due.

Whups. Well, EG, until the 77th starts sending its load to UCLA--extremely unlikely, given the distances involved--I'll still bet on County-USC's trauma unit. For cancer research, I'd lean towards UCLA.

The best one si the one that admits me to med school. Naturally. =P

There is no statistically meaningful difference in student credentials between Cornell, Berkeley, UCLA.

and thank you, cotodecasa for that randomness...

All I gotta say is GO BRUINS!!!

i wonder where cotodecasa gets his/her name. i would think its a play off Coto de Caza near Rancho Santa Margarita in south OC, but he/she is from belleview, wa.

CotodeCasa, why are you interested in UCLA?

...and whats with the name?

but hey, he does post a lot on the UCLA forum... and we're no longer last on # of posts/threads on CC top 25!

When it comes down to it, you are looking at the differences between a public school and a private school. You will get a good education at either. But, you will get more specialized attention at USC. USC is also much more social. USC has a larger endowment. USC has larger dorm rooms. USC isn't spread out and on hills making bike riding damn near impossible. USC has better sports teams--can you say three-Pete!

But the real thing that seperates USC and UCLA is the Trojan family. Trojans take care of other Trojans. They employ them, they promote them, they seek them out. I could try to explain the trojan family all day long, but you just have to go to USC to understand. The trojan family is a truly beautiful thing, and whatever childish comments Bruins might make about my post, it is just because they wish they had our connections!

Yes, USC has great alumni connections.

But, in the end, guess what?

It comes down to the individual, not the school you attended and not the people you know.

And one more thing:

Please reinforce your statement that USC is more social? I doubt you have hard stats, just personal opinion. A campus's social activities are dependent on each student's asssessment of that activity. What you may consider boring, may be something another considers exciting.

And, I love the fact that UCLA sits on hills. It's my personal opinion; I like the fact that I can find shade in Dickson Plaza or walk a pathway lined by grass and trees. It's not for everybody, but it's for me. In the end, USC posters are not going to convince UCLA fans, and vice versa.
