UCLA vs. UW...help!

^ What’s authentic Chinese? Panda Express or P.F. Changs?

Question: How come authentic Chinese restaurants are always super cheap for lunch but much more expensive for dinner?

Barrons, I always joke that since moving west I’ve gotten “soft” with weather. Below freezing - yikes!

Sam Lee: Good points and I think related to the quality of life issues. Visits to LA require tons of car time. And it gets exhausting. But man Koreatown is ENORMOUS, Vietnamese food in Orange County, varieties of Mexican food, Deli etc… And, don’t forget the Korean taco truck: [Kogi|Korean BBQ-To-Go](http://kogibbq.com/)

Also, I’ve found the superficial LA is just a part of the city. If you head inland things mellow. The Silverlake/Atwater areas seem down to earth. Strangely, I get more “attitude” from people in SF than in LA. Oh well.

All in all Seattle gets better every year with more, different types of people and food. But Seattle as well is spreading out. Korean is in Federal Way or Lynwood. South asian is in Bellevue/Redmond and Kent. But def. Chinese, Vietnamese and Ethiopian in town :). And fine dining in town is great.

UW medical school is fantastic, that being said, they take very few UW graduates into the medical school or the graduate programs in other disciplines. If you want UW medical school, it is better to go some where else for undergraduate school. Pacfic Lutheran University and University of Puget Sound, both small not to well known LAC’s get roughly the same number of students into UW Medical School. {I am refering to MD degree, not all the other medical school ( dental, podiatry, pharmacy, etc) that many schools lump in the the statistic that they quote you for medical school admissions} GRAYSKIES AND RAIN
ARE THE NORM IN SEATTLE, it can be quite depressing…

I have heard that about UW Med school but was not able to confirm its truth. I’d expect 25% or so would be UW undergrads.

for premed, U-Dub is a no-brainer since the competition for A’s will be lower.

SAT Math 700+:

UW - 19%
UCLA - 40%

SAT CR 700+

UW - 11%
UCLA - 21%

I would guess than 30-40% of entering UCLA undergrads in the College of Letters & Science are premed, many of which got into UCLA bcos they have already taken AP sciences and Calc, but will repeat the course for the “easy” A.

I was able to find some older data on UW and about 25% of the class was from UW undergrad. Due to the high number of applicants from UW the acceptance rate was pretty low–around 16%. But that was similar to the acceptance rates from some top private schools. (HYP type)
