Hi! I just joined this site because I've been on it a lot and you guys really seem to know what you're doing.
Anyway, I was accepted to UCLA and Wash U (both as a biology major, and I don't intend to pursue med school) and am having a very tough time deciding which one to pick. I live in San Diego and have visited both and LOVE both. I like Wash U's smaller feel and more intimate class sizes, but it's in St. Louis and is SO FAR AWAY. I like being close to my family and the beach. Also, I don't think anyone else from my school got into Wash U, and I already have many friends at UCLA. Money doesn't really matter much.
I am personally leaning toward UCLA, but my parents are really pushing WUSTL. Any thoughts? Is the extra distance from home worth Wash U?

They are both strong schools, so fit is probably the most important factor. Sounds like you think UCLA would fit better. Plus it is probably a lot cheaper in-state.

I’m a WashU parent, BTW. One thing I will mention is that lots of new students at WashU don’t know anyone else there, so it is very easy to make new friends.

You are fortunate to have such good schools to choose between. You won’t go wrong whichever path you choose.

Thank you so much! That helps a lot. And you’re absolutely right, thankfully I got into my top two schools and am pretty sure I will be happy no matter which school I choose. Thanks again!

My dad went to WashU and was a foreign student. He said that making friends was amazingly easy
