  • Got waitlisted at UCSD as well for the same major  *

Hey everybody! New to College Confidential here, but I felt like I needed a place to talk honestly about getting waitlisted. Not gonna lie, I’m really shocked and disappointed, but maybe I was just being naive. Anyway, I am hopeful, but this is gonna be quite an inconvenient process.

STATS:
Female
White
Out of State
Major: Undeclared Social Science
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.6
ECs: lots of thespian stuff, Key Club President so lots of community service, NHS, etc. I also have a job.
AP classes: APUSH, AP Lang and comp last year, got fives on both. AP psych, AP US Gov and politics, and AP Lit and Comp. this year

I honestly think the main reason I didn’t get in was because I didn’t take enough AP classes, especially in regards to math and science, but there’s only so much a working girl can handle! Waiting to hear back from USC, my other top choice, but now am expecting a waitlist there as well. Really considered about financial aid, though.

Although this sucks, it’s not the worst possible outcome. I spent some time reading last year’s thread and it looks like first big wave of waitlist acceptances will come around May 3rd.

Also, can someone explain what you mean by supplemental questions?

waitlisted to UCLA
female
out of state
SAT 1300
UW GPA 3.8
Graduating with 10 APS
swim teacher, AP capstone scholar, lifeguard, NHS, community service etc
not even waitlisted, but DENIED to UCSD (which really suprised me)
does anyone know the stats for waitlisted, opt ins, admitted etc ??

Anyone knows what are the chances of getting off the waitlist at UCLA?

Waitlisted for Biology
UW GPA : 4.98
SAT : 1560
5’s and 800’s in all APs and Subject SATs

I don’t have any hard stats for you, but from what I gathered reading last year’s thread, your chances depend on a few factors. Obviously, most important is how many accepted students actually choose to attend. Then, it depends on your major and how many spots are open there. Lastly, it looks like out of state students have a better chance of getting off the waitlist because that means more money for the school. Hope this helps!

Waitlisted
In State
Applied Math Major
ACT: 32
SAT II - Math II: 740, Physics: 610
UC fully weighted GPA: 4.3
Accepted to UCSD, UCI Honors, UCD, Cal Poly SLO

I really want to go to UCLA, so should I write more in the additional info. section besides my fall grades? I’m not sure what to write besides me making it to a county-wide piano finals competition this month. I’m hoping my fall grades will help me since I got a 4.86 W and 4.0 UW (6 AP classes this year).

However, I heard that not many in-state students get off the waitlist. Is that true?

@vallgall I’m in-state too and it sounds like we’ll be disadvantaged. The likelihood is really low. I applied to Business Econ 4.4W and 3.9UW, ACT 34. I’m also confused what to write under Additional Info section. Any suggestions?

What were your stats/ extracurriculars?

SAT: 1290
EC’s:
Voice Lessons-few local performances
InvenTeam: President/Administrative Lead, team won Lemelson MIT Grant to present invention at MIT this summer
High school Innovation Challenge: Vice Pres- team won first place last year in local comp.
Ambassador: help freshman transition to our school (I’m at an Early College High School)
Key Club: was secretary last year, created service project for kids with autism
Piano: Self taught since eigth grade
Work: restaurant as dishwasher/waitress for 10-15 hrs a week
Major: Engineering
