I recently submitted my intent to be on the waitlist and thought I’d make a thread to communicate with the rest of you who are in the same boat. Good luck to all of you and I hope we’ll be able to get off the waitlist!
I was waitlisted too. Honestly, I am pretty happy because I thought I’d get flat out rejected lol. Here are my stats:
SAT: 1840
SAT 2: 700 (m bio)
UC GPA: 4.2
Unweighted: 3.8
Major: Biology
10 AP classes
lots of leadership and extra curriculars
good personal statements
race: Asian Indian
-I submitted my intent to be on the waitlist as well. I honestly don’t expect to get off the waitlist. Last year approximately 7% of people got off the waitlist lol.
-I’m pretty happy though. I got into UCD, which is really good for biological sciences (pre med)
-Good luck to you also!
I was also pretty happy to be waitlisted LOL.
What did you guys write in the additional information section? I know you should list new awards and such, but can we write another essay?
we have limited space so idk about writing an essay @teneramente
Does anyone find 7000 characters to be A LOT of space. Like it’s about a thousand words…
@niktheslick My stats are relatively similar to yours. I got into UCSD and their science program is good, so I’m fine if I don’t get off the list.
@Teneramente I only wrote a paragraph updating them of a new leadership position and stated why I wanted to go to UCLA. I don’t think you should write an essay necessarily. Keep it brief but convincing!
I was pretty upset I got waitlisted, and even more after I visited the campus and it’s absolutely gorgeous. What major did you guys apply as?
@graceunderfire I applied for BioE. How likely is it for engineering students to get off the waitlist?
@stressed4lyfe Actually, me too! LOL. Guess we’re on the same boat. And I have no idea how many
Let’s hope for the best!
As much as I try to move on to another school, UCLA is always on the back of my mind. I keep imagining how much I would enjoy and how happy I would be. Ugh May 1st please hurry!!
@wanderlust This year I had the honor of participating in the UCLA Alumni Scholarship Application review. Keeping in mind that your “effort” on your waitlist statement will be measured, I highly suggest using the full 7000 characters in a very reflective and meaningful personal statement. “Brief” can be easily viewed as rushed. You still have time to go back and make changes until April 15th. Here are a few more tips http://admitguide.com/ucla-freshmen-admissions/2015-freshmen-admissions-numbers-by-campus/uc-waitlist/
UCLA said last year roughly 120 residents and 120 OOS were offered admission from the waitlist. Good luck! Go Bruins!
@graceunderfire I applied as a Psychobiology major. I don’t think it played a facter though. I hardly hear students going for this major.
@monarch1 I feel like 7,000 characters is a lot, and I’d be overstating why they should choose me rather than why I specifically want to go there. Additionally, I did the supplement, so I already have two more personal statements to be accounted for.
@Wanderlustt 7,000 characters is the perfect amount of space to make one last impression. Many students will cut corners here which presents the perfect opportunity to stand out. An opportunity to those who can rally one last time. I understand you all must be exhausted. But for those that can rise to the occasion and give this your full attention…you will have the best chance.
Hello friends I am here.
Waitlisted, applied for Chemical Engineering
SAT I: 2160 (770M, 720CR, 670W)
ACT: 34
SAT II: 750 Math II and Chem
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.93
UC GPA: 4.21 (capped), 4.29 (fully-weighted)
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 8/122 or something

I got straight A’s last semester so I put that down on the supplement thing. I’m dead-set on going to UT Austin now, though (it’s actually been my dream school for years). Sorta sad because my parents are both Bruins (I’m staying on the waitlist for their honor), but life is what it is and everything happens for a reason :^)
Does anyone know wait-list statistics for international students?
I was wait-listed for Biochemistry.
SAT I: 2010 (720M, 630CR, 660W)
ACT: -
SAT II: -
Senior Courseload: IB Diploma Candidate (Testing in May). Predicted grades are: Chemistry HL 6, Biology HL 6, ITGS HL 6, Math SL 7, Spanish ab Initio SL 5, English Literature SL 5.
Does anyone know when exactly waitlist decisions come out?
@niktheslick They say after May 1st, but in 2014 they started coming out on April 26th. In 2013, they started May 3rd. It all depends. Also, they come out in waves, not all at once.
@stressed4lyfe http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1632047-official-thread-for-ucla-fall-2014-wait-listed-students-p10.html
Last year’s waitlist class of 2018 waited until the end of May. I really hope that’s not the case for this year because that’s far too late to even consider enrolling UCLA if we get off the list…
@wanderlustt Let’s hope to be in one of the first batches! Fingers-crossed!
Have any of you SIR’d at any college? I’m wondering if I should just commit & submit a deposit for another school now, or wait a couple days before May 1st in case UCLA does send out an early batch.
