UCLA WAITLIST CLASS OF 2020

@effyeahjen
Your optimism is contagious! I’ve been feeling down lately since UCLA has been my dream school, but your calculations put me more at ease! haha

It never hit me how much I loved this school until I got waitlisted

I really hope we get in!! :slight_smile:

@sushicult I feel exactly the same way! I get waitlisted and then fall in love with the school. I just makes me wonder if I had realized it sooner if I would have been able to do something to get in. But they saw potential in us, why else would we be waitlisted instead of flat out rejected? So now we can gush about how much we love UCLA with a second chance! If they have the space I’m sure we would all get in! And the numbers seem to be in our favor this year!

The whole OOS and financial aid thing will only open waitlist spots for more OOS people. lol please don’t get too excited. You will otherwise definitely feel crushed if you don’t get it.

And according to Ms suns UC admission blog, the waitlist acceptance rate was around 15% last year. Not super high.

“For Fall Quarter 2016, UCLA received more than 97,000 freshman applications for a class of just over 6,400 new freshmen. We had to deny more than 79,000 applicants”. Using these numbers as well as a yield of 35% (assuming waitlisted students count as deny and that 3000 students were waitlisted), the number I get is really really low (100). Hopefully I made a mistake!

@i2400ezpz what can I say? I’m an optimist by nature. Plus, waitlist results can vary widely year to year and there just seems to be a lot of outside factors on our side this time around. And in my case, looking at the bright side is helping to keep me from going absolutely nuts this close to decision time.

I agree with you, but I did the same thing with my dream college, and I got rejected and it was not fun haha.

Oh no! I do hope you’re happy wherever you end up!
And in regards to the only 100 spots left for waitlisted students, remember they said “more than 79,000” so the number could be higher and it could be that the waitlisted students were not included in that 79,000 (since we weren’t technically denied). If that’s the case then the number of admitted students goes down to 15,000 and the number of enrollments to 5,250, again leaving upwards of 1,000 spots for the waitlist.

@effyeahjen And we can also take into consideration all the people that were offered the wait list option that didn’t opt in to the wait list and the people that have opted in but will not accept the admission offer if they get one because they want to go to another school.
@sushicult “It never hit me how much I loved this school until I got waitlisted” TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN I AGREE 100% PERCENT!!!

@effyeahjen Same! I honestly wouldn’t even know how to handle a rejection from UCLA (I was so bummed after I opened up the portal that I had to contemplate my life in the shower and try to imagine myself in another campus other than UCLA’s, HAHA.) But I guess I might as well learn how to handle disappointment early on in life if I don’t get in!

On the bright side, I consider my self lucky to have a second chance at my dream school! I’m crossing my fingers for all of us right now. :)>-

@imvegetarian2016 We’re on the same boat, my comrade! All month I’ve been wondering what I could have possibly done to be admitted (trust me, I’ve tried my best to stop lingering on this! But what if’s???). Sometimes I felt like all my endeavors were all for naught, but that’s definitely not true. We’ve grown as individuals and wherever we go, I’m certain we’ll be happy there as well! I’m content with UCSD! :slight_smile:

Sorry for the long post; I had to let off some steam! Most of my friends got into UCLA, and I don’t want to dampen their mood whenever I vent about my predicament.

@sushicult OMG NO WAY MOST OF MY FRIENDS GOT INTO UCLA ALSO!!! Finally someone who understands hahahha

I feel like I wouldn’t feel as depressed if all of close friends hadn’t gotten in either because all they talk about now is making plans about being roommates and what clubs they want to join and what classes they want to sign up for etc… and I’m just sitting there filling out my housing app for UCI feeling left out (but I’m super happy for them they deserve to go to UCLA).
UCSD has such a beautiful campus and it’s so close to the beach. I love it! I was wait listed at UCSD and UCB as well so I’m just sitting here contemplating life and praying for all of us that we get into UCLA!!!

@imvegetarian2016 Me too!! Although my friends were sympathetic, I don’t think they understood how desperately I wanted to attend UCLA, LOL. (My family has a legacy there too, so that rubbed salt into my wounds, ouch!) We all had similar statistics, some of us more academic-oriented (me!), and others more focused on extracurricular activities and awards.

I’m sure you’re bound to get off at least one of your waitlists though! I was rejected by Berkeley and was accepted into UCSD and UCI. I would have gone to UCI, but I wanted to move further away from home! (though UCSD is a bit too far for my tastes, it’s an hour and 30 minutes drive compared to UCLA’s 45 minutes drive)

Who knows, if you decide to go to UCSD, I’ll welcome you there with open arms! >:D<
And if we get into UCLA together, double the yay!

In retrospect, I feel like I should have been more unconventional in my personal statements. That’s my only regret!

@sushicult SSAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEE LMFAOO

we’re both going to get into UCLA and become best friends. I can see it happening.

@imvegetarian2016 @sushicult can I be best friend #3?? And I swear I’m not just saying this to feel included but most of my friends also got in! I think I will also SIR to UCSD unless UCLA lets me in before May 1st!

@effyeahjen WELCOME TO THE FAM
Nooooo come to UCI

@imvegetarian2016 nooooooo it’s already hard to decide! And don’t worry I’m gonna wait till the last possible minute to SIR in hopes of UCLA accepting me :smiley:

@effyeahjen you’re right all of us are obviously going to get into UCLA so there’s no point in talking about where we “would go instead” :))

@imvegetarian2016 OB-viously (Harry Potter reference anyone?) Yep I’m going crazy :-bd

@effyeahjen OMMG YAAAASSSS i am the biggest Harry Potter fan. My mom works at a fabric store and I forced her to buy me Harry Potter fabric for no reason. B-)

@imvegetarian2016 WANT! So a bunch of my friends and I got together and went as a Quidditch team for Halloween and I wanted to get a Snitch but I was too cheap to buys one so I KNITTED ONE WHAT A NERD AM I LOL?
