UCLA WAITLIST CLASS OF 2020

I wish UCLA had a spring admit program like USC instead of a wait list

waitlisted for political science in-state
4.14 GPA 3.90UW
32 ACT
Don’t plan on opting in…
Hoping for UC Berkeley!!!

Wait listed for chemistry.
4.15 UC GPA, 3.85 UW.
33 ACT.
Opted in but not going to pursue. Hoping for Berkeley.

Apparently two years ago they admitted about 16,000 applicants initially for a class of about 5,700, and then accepted about 150 off the waitlist. This year, they accepted the same amount - 16,000 - for a class size of 6,400. Assuming that the yield will likely be lower (due to OOS admits declining UCLA because of the lack of Financial Aid), it looks like we all stand a fair chance  Keep hope everyone!!!

That’s good to hear! Hopefully we get in

@greysfan24 That’s really comforting news!!! Do you know where they said that the class size they’re hoping for is 6,400?

i think its in the letter on the portal but im not sure

@imvegetarian2016 Oooh okay, you’re right, it does say just over 6,400 students!! That sounds like good news to me!

Waitlisted in-state
3.9 uc gpa

opted in, but going to uci probs!!

@kaatherinee I got wait listed at UCLA and opted in but I’ll also probably be going to UCI!!!

@supfam You are guaranteed housing-- I’m currently a freshman at UCLA who was admitted off the waitlist last year. I received my first choice for housing but they moved me to one of my last choices for housing about a month before school started because they said I didn’t have priority, which I assumed was because I was on the waitlist. While that could be something to consider, you will be guaranteed housing.

In regards to the posts about those who had good grades and test scores, while it may seem weird that your acceptances weren’t guaranteed and that people who had a lot lower grades were accepted, it is because UCLA needs to have diversity. UCLA is composed of a lot of really bright and motivated students, but that’s not everything it is looking for

For those who were asking about what to write for the opt in, I agree to write about what has changed and what you’ve accomplished since your application. Just make sure to write about something that will stand out to the person that is going to read it, and emphasize why you want to go to UCLA and why you would make an impact there.

@imvegetarian2016 When I got off the waitlist last year, I, as well as everyone I heard from, didn’t get off until after May 1st. They have to account for how many spots they have open first.

@missjantastic in regards to being accepted off the waitlist by major @madamechic is right about spots opening up based on the department/college within UCLA, just wanted to confirm that is true in case you were still wondering

Sorry if all of these posts were annoying, I just wanted to give all the knowledge about UCLA and the waitlist that I have. Last year the waitlist process absolutely killed me-- my pride and my emotions were going crazy because I wanted to get into UCLA so badly and I thought I had the grades and extracurriculars to do it. But reading waitlist threads from the past years with advice were one of the few things that comforted me and gave me hope. And I got off the waitlist! So it does happen, try not to worry too much. If its meant to be, it’ll happen. And UCLA will be happy to have you all! I wish you guys the best, good luck!

If you have any other questions, feel free to tag me and I’ll try my best to answer!

@chipotleismylife Do you mind telling us what your major was? I applied as a Pre-Global Studies major and I rarely hear anything about it  Also, I’ve heard some people end up using the additional comments section as a third “personal statement” sort of thing? Would that be too excessive?

@chipotleismylife thank u for sharing so much info! can u tell us more about what thou mention in the letter? Like do u add new things or restate existing things?

@chipotleismylife Hey! I only mentioned that some people started hearing if they got off the wait list before May 1 because I was stalking last year’s wait listed thread and people started posting their acceptances around April 26ish. I was pretty surprised when I read it, so thanks for the clarification! I just had a quick question; for the additional comments box, do we literally just give the additional/updated information, or do we also write why we want to go to UCLA and things like that?
