UCLA WAITLIST CLASS OF 2020

Also, @ttn2016 sorry I meant to say that they read your entire application again multiple times in addition to your supplement, I didn’t mean to say that they will treat your supplement like an application by itself. Sorry for saying the incorrect information. I hope you understand what I mean. If not, let me know and I’ll try to clarify further!

waitlisted for undeclared of Social Science, but in my statement, I wrote now I am sure want to major in Statistic which is under Social Science.
I have 4.33 gpa, 2150 SAT, and lots of EC.
I am an international student, but studied 4 four years high school in CA, I want to go to UCLA soooo badly, I really want to know what’s my chance.
my next choice is UCSD, I already SIR UCSD, but in UCLA statement, I said if I can get the chance, I will decline my offer to UCSD.

Can’t wait!

Guys, unless youre being honest, don’t say that youd attend if admitted, it only postpones the waitlist process and lowers the chances of those that actually would like to attend

anyone psychology?

does anyone know last years data for the wait list
does anyone know who they will prefer this year
does anyone know how being on the wait list is for a mechanical engineering major
thanks

I don’t believe there are available waitlist stats for 2015. However, for 2014, 3700 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 2100 opted in, and 150 were accepted. Nobody knows what will happen this year. Its possible that hundreds of students will get taken off the waitlist, and its possible that none will, it all depends on the yield this year.

UCLA Waitlist 2015 Courtesy of Ms. Sun’s UC website:
3,400 opt-ins
500 admits
360 SIRs

Intended Major: Neuroscience
Next Choice College: University of Chicago
Opt-In: Yeah

I’ve recently finished (or at least am close to finishing) my waitlist statement, but it’s definitely not as succinct as I’d like it to be. Would anyone be interested in reading it over and giving some few suggestions as to what I would leave out/further elaborate on? @chipotleismylife Thanks!

@ttn2016 im more than willing to help out, dm it to me

@chipotleismylife
What I’m most confused about is the format of the additional information. It seems too informal to write anything but an “essay”, however, the information I want to give doesn’t all flow together. I had one main additional thing, which I think I succeeded in flowing together with the reasons I want to go to UCLA, and to some extent why I would be a worthwhile addition to the student body (I didn’t actually say it outright, but I think giving my accomplishments in addition to some of the activities Id like to get involved with, which are similar, made that implication). I also read on many websites that it’s good to use all 7000 characters because it shows that you care. That’s contradictory to what you said as well as my own gut feeling. I don’t want to bore the admissions officials.
I realize this is pretty late to bother asking this, so no worries if you see it past the deadline

Still have to do it. What did you guys put for the extra writing option? My mind immediately goes to essay, but I feel a few sentences explaining why I should get in is sufficient. What do you think? Please dm me.

3.57 Uw
4.26 UC
33 ACT
780 physics

Undeclared engineering, though I wish I could have changed.

Lol im not sure theyll actually read the additional info, ive heard that some people have gotten in without putting anything

@ikim16 Basically, why UCLA would want you, and why you would be a good fit for UCLA.

@godzilla24 They do. Why else would it be there?

Thanks @mikuru !! It helps a lot.

How does ucla have so many waitlist opportunities? It seems weird to leave after the SIR. A few exceptions, but not thousands ahah. Better for me, I guess.

They have a lot because waitlists are completely unpredictable. They have no idea how many people will matriculate, so they just keep a “safety” number of waitlisted students around.

Also, even if you don’t get in via waitlist, know this: Waitlist in itself is completely unpredictable. In fact, your intended major and location dictate it a lot. For example, if they had less students in the midwest who applied for engineering enroll, then those students will get in, over other engineering students who may be more qualified. There’s always the factor of luck, so even if you don’t get in, don’t feel bad! It’s equally likely where you are made them not accept you, and if you get in, congrats! Be proud of yourself and forget I said this.

@BLawls what is the information you want to give that doesn’t flow together? You can dm it to me and I’ll take a look at it. Yeah while it makes sense that using all 7000 characters will show that you care, I think that you can portray how much you care in a much shorter version. I remember writing a little less than half the maximum when I wrote my additional information. I also have friends that got in writing only two lines, saying that that they got into Berkeley but would rather go to UCLA and would do so if admitted. I also have friends that didn’t write anything. So its really up to you, I don’t think there’s an entirely wrong answer because the admissions process can be pretty arbitrary since so many different officers are reading your applications.

The deadline to opt in has passed!
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!

Good luck xx

Gl! What did you all write? I just wrote three paragraphs, the first was about why I want to attend ucla, the next was about new leadership positions/awards, and the last about the ways id get involved and what I would bring to campus
