When can we expect to see some people get off the waitlist in the initial batch?
Dates are random, but I believe April 26th was the starting last year.
@godzilla24 My big “additional information” was an internship that I had throughout the year at UCD, so I wrote about what the experience did for me/how it relates to my major:mechanical engineering, and wove that in with why it makes me a good candidate for UCLA and why I want to go to UCLA. I then talked about what exactly I did, and the results of the projects, and how the effects of said work are related to my aspirations (mostly general stuff) and why UCLA is a great fit for me to do those things. I also included a few clubs I want to participate in, related to my major, and a one or two little remarks that showed I knew the campus (don’t worry, they made sense within context.)
I also wrote about a few other activities that I participated in this year, because I had just moved cross-country a few months before college apps, so I wanted to show that I was still involved in my community/school in a new location.
Sorry you probably didnt want quite that much info. Btw mine ended up being around 4500 characters including grade updates (All A’s! barely pulled off the A in comp lit to keep an “unblemished” transcript only to ruin it in the 4th quarter)
@chipotleismylife Thanks for the offer, but given that the deadline is passed, I wont waste your time with something that can’t be changed
@blawls thats really, really, really strong
Do you think UCLA would be able to tell us whether they’re going to be taking people off the waitlist? I know it’s early, but there could be some indication already.
Even if they could, they probably wouldn’t. (They never have historically).
Good luck everyone!
SAT 2140
Don’t have GPA
International student
Undeclared physical science
I updated my fall grades and ECs. Also wrote about why I want to go to UCLA and why it’s a fit for me.
Guys I’m not feeling as good about my “additional info” stuff as I was before reading all these awesome things you guys have put…
@effyeahjen Waitlist isn’t just additional info, don’t worry. There’s many more factors - maybe they’re lacking some law students from the southeast region, etc. Don’t forget that luck factor.
So I’ve been crunching numbers instead of studying for my calc final but tis the sad state of the anxious waitlisted student. But here’s what I got. From the letter they sent us, UCLA received 97,000 applications. If UCLA wants to keep their admission rate at last year’s 17.3%, they would have admitted 16,781 applicants. Also assuming that UCLA’s enrollment rate remains the same as last year’s 35%, that would mean 5,873 of the admitted students will SIR. BUT - this year, UCLA has increased the number of spots for the freshman class to 6,400 students leaving about 527 spots open for us wailisters. Then, assuming that the number of opt-ins for the waitlist remains around the 2,500 mark of past years, we have about a 21% chance of getting off the waitlist! Good luck everyone!
It should be even higher than that; yield should be a lot lower for oos students because the UC system is no longer offering financial aid to them, so hopefully there will be many spots!
But then at the same time, if there are oos students who CAN pay the oos tuition, then it’s arguable that the yield might also be in that group’s favor alone.
Does an international student have to replace an international one only? Or they can replace OOS as well?
I’m hoping that they won’t put too much emphasis on where you’re from since the number of students off the waitlist isn’t really enough to skew their demographics. I think that they just take whoever they think will fit best according to those who SIRed.
Guys I’m stressing real hard about this waitlist thing rn does anyone wanna obsess over possible decision dates with me?
@effyeahjen i’ll stress with you
It’s messing with my head real bad
If it follows last year’s pattern, we could be seeing the first group of waitlisted students in 6 days
@jindaltanya yay! stress buddies!
@mikaruru SOBS, it’s so close yet so far. I really don’t like the waves thing because it just keeps hope alive for so long even if they kind of know you have no chance…
also, an update: I called the admissions office and they told me that they don’t admit off the waitlist by major which seems to contradict past patterns. But I hope that’s the case since I applied for engineering and it seems like engineering waitlistees haven’t gotten much love in the past
@effyeahjen have you SIR’d elsewhere yet?
Do they give rank us on waitlist?
