What did yall write in your optional info section?
I updated my grades and wrote about new leadership achievements because my application was sort of lacking in that area. I also put why I would be a good fit at UCLA. I feel pretty good about it, so even if I don’t get in I know I did everything that I could!
I updated new leadership/extracurricular achievements, discussed how I would make a valuable contribution to the Class of 2020 (talents and whatnot!), activities I plan to partake in UCLA and why UCLA is the best fit for me!
I’m on the waitlist this year, about 12 kids from my school have gotten accepted- regular decision ! I have a 4.0 and sat score of 1690 I’m still positive wish me luck it’s an honor to be here!
In my additional information, I updated my semester grades (4.33 [4AP]) and talked about my current gpa (4.5 at least- when I submitted it ) I also added notes that hint that UCLA is my first choice and I WILL attend if accepted no doubt.
I also wrote a rubric for myself and basically included what I can contribute to UCLA and what the school can offer me. I made a note to include specific programs (like PREP) and volunteer opportunities only ucla can offer me, to show I’ve done research on the school.
I wrote a bit about my carreer goals and how I’ve been promoted and am still handling responsibilities in my extra curricular Activities with my AP classes since applying.
I really hope this helped with those stressing over additional information, of you’d like to see the rubric, please let me know!
Good Luck!!
I included my fall semester grades (3 APs, 1 IB, all As) and then wrote about how my robotics team (it’s our first year!) made it to worlds and kinda blew our regional competition outta the water. I also talked about my roles on the team (captain, designing, machining, and a couple more) and the skills I’ve learned from them and how I want to contribute those to the class and my major (mechanical engineering). I wasn’t able to include any of this stuff on my original app since our build season hasn’t started then so hopefully it’ll be enough to push me in! Good luck everyone!
Do you guys know if UCLA wait lists by major? Like if you applied as a comp engineer are you wait listed for the school of engineering?
@Prince111111 I called the admissions office last week and asked if they admit by major from the waitlist. The girl said no, they admit to the university as a whole but that does seem to contradict past patterns
@effyeahjen that makes no sense. Last year UCLA took nobody off engineering. Im sure UCLA and Berkeley take less engineers than other majors because engineers are more inclined to go to these schools.
@i2400ezpz the admissions office said it, not me and I agree that it doesn’t make much sense but I do hope that what they say is true because I did apply to engineering
Another update: I went on a prospective students your today because I apparently love torturing myself but I did learn that they admitted only about 12,000-14,000 applicants this year, way lower than the 16,000 I used before to calculate our chances of getting in off the waitlist. This is really really good. So lets take worst case scenario and say they admitted 14,000 students. Last year’s enrollment rate was 35% but let’s say it’s 36.5% this year (again worst case) and 5,110 students enroll. But there are 6,400 spots for freshman this year meaning that there should be upwards of 1,000 spots open for us on the waitlist! This combined with the whole shebang with out-of-state financial aid and tuition (which may open up even more spots), I’ve gotta say, I’m feeling a bit better. Don’t give up hope!!
@effyeahjen YOUR CALCULATIONS ARE LITERALLY THE ONLY THING KEEPING MY HOPE UP RN THANK YOU
@imvegetarian2016 hahah I’m glad my obsessive neuroticism is helping someone else out! At this point it feels like I’m kinda just muttering numbers to myself like a crazy person lol! We will get through this together!!
@effyeahjen I think your “obsessive neuroticism” is better than my unresponsive state of panic since you’re actualy managing to get something done AHHAHAH :))
@imvegetarian2016 Hahahahaha I should probably be getting school work done but oh well! I reallllyyyyy hope they send out the first wave of acceptances early like on April 26, 27, or 30 (seemed the most likely based on past threads) like they did in 2014! The waiting is killing me!!! :((
