Well, I know that similar threads have been there before, but I actually could not find much information about the cognitive science program at UCLA... I am an internetional student admitted to both UCLA and UCSD (undergrad) and while relative prestige and atmosphere of UCLA are quite appealing to me, I am a bit concerned about the quality of UCLA program (no actual department of cogsci, no possibility of specialization within the major, plus you're not even accepted directly to the major but only to the pre-cogsci thing...). In contrast, the UCSD program seems excellent to me (I especially like specialization in Clinical Aspects of Cognition). I am sure that you can find bountiful research opportunities at both universities, it is just that UCSD program seems to be slightly more revolving around other sciences (which I prefer) while UCLA's one appears to be some sort of a psychology cocktail... So my question is - is really UCLA's program significantly worse or is it just false impression due to my limited knowledge about the program? What is your experience studying cogsci at UCLA? And if UCSD's program is truly better, do you think that the reputation and opportunities of UCLA can sufficiently compensate for it?

everyone acts like UCLA has such a good neurosci program when it doesnt lol…UCSD is ranked soo much higher for neuro/cogsci look at the US NEws rankings…and plus you’ll be happier at UCSD…here at UCLA you have to put up with so much ******** and unhealthy competition…if i were u go to UCLA, unless you wanna party

thx for reply. Anyone else here studying CogSci?

To the post two posts above me-

There is virtually no discussion about programs at UCLA vs. other schools… so I don’t know who this " everybody " BS is.

Secondly, UCSD is socially dead. You have never been there if you disagree with me.

Thirdly, the only time I hear about UCLA being ultra-competitive is on this website. Everyone’s fairly chill, south campus and north campus. If you are suffering because of your perceived competition, you probably should not have gotten in UCLA in the first place.

S-T-F-U incognito ppl ARE NOT FAIRLY CHILL…u wanna know what happened in my chem class: i’ll tell u this some kid went and told on a TA and said “whahahah that TA isn’t grading people’s workbook…he’s just giving 100s”…and so the prof told the TA to start grading the workbooks, and the kids who were in the TA’s section all got screwed on their workbooks…so dont give me that s-h-i-t…ure probably some idiot north campus major or south campus geek who just studies and probably never exercises…and the only reason UCSD is dead is because ppl dont drink…doesn’t mean the ppl there are socially ■■■■■■■■

So you complain because a student reported to professor about a TA who didnt do what he/she supposed to do? amusing.

no i dont complain u fool…i counter incognito’s comment that ppl are ‘chill’ with this scenario and can tell mutliple true instances that could further undermine incognito’s comment…curious are any of u guys science majors,or just talkin bout stuff u dont know?

Damn, the animosity of south campus
