Ucla

Hi everyone, I'm a rising junior in high school. Every since I started my sophmore year my world literally flipped over. The amount of stress in my life increased due to stress at school and major family problems. This being said my sophmore year wasnt the exactly my year, here are my sophmore year grades

AP World History - C/B
Physiology- A/A
Honors English-A/A
Honors Chem- B/B
Algebra 2-B/C
Honors spanish 2- D/B

not exactly stellar, I know.
Im really not a bad student I just had to deal with some things at home that a kid my age just shouldnt and all of this had to happen at a very important time in my schooling career. Anyways, I am reading to start the most important year of high school (junior year) with a fabulous start. My mom and I have talked about it a lot and we both think that I can make straight A's taking 4 APs this coming school year. Sounds like a total joke but I am ready for the challenge. Please don't tell me that I simply couldnt pull it off because as much as your concern is appreciated I only need the faith of myself and the people around me. Anyways back to the point, I want to get into UCLA more than anything in this world for many factors.
- It has a great science program which I am very interested in (Biology)
- Its only 5 minutes away from my house!
- It has a great tuition fee that my family can afford for in state student
- I know my parents would really appreciate me going there because as the eldest child in my family I know that they will need my help so that fact that UCLA is so close is a major plus.
- And finally, I'm just in love with this school, I mean I can clearly picture myself as a student there.

I know that most of the people on here arent exactly college admissions experts but if someone here is an alumi/current student of UCLA or if anyone on here knows enough about UCLA to "chance" me it would be grealty appreciated. I'm going to post the rest of my "stats" here...

SAT combined: 2300
ACT: 32
Weighted UC gpa: 4.14 (if things go as planned)(by the end of junior year)
Un-weighted UC gpa: 3.57(if things go as planned)(by the end of junior year)
My high school gpa as in the gpa that my high school calculates in order to figure out rank, by the end
of the first semester of senior year will be a 3.95 (top 10%), this will be on my transcript.(btw, this is if things go as planned)
Extra curriculars
-swim team (all four years)
-diving team( 2 yeara, its a new program at my school)
-water polo team (im kind of a fish) (2 years, its a new program

My religion is pretty much un heard of.
I'm known to write essays that touch peoples hearts. =]
Thanks for your time guys.

You need to push your UC weighted gpa as high as you can get it.

Here are the admission stats for UCLA. See how you compare.

**GOOD LUCK! ** :)

People always talk about UC gpa, etc. But this particular calculation is mainly to see if someone’s qualified minimally. UCLA’s admission readers will look at everything: grades uw and w, converted to UC gpa, SATI, SAT II, ACT’s, EC’s, the whole thing. Wonderful scores, good gpa … I agree with BandMom to try to pull up your uw gpa because the mean is 3.8+ for incoming frosh. And your essays will be huge; if you write as heartfelt as you stated, you can work your way in on that angle. And if you can’t make it for frosh standing there’s always community college. BOL…

your gpa needs to go up! Other than that you are a shoe in

I am a UCLA alumni, and my stats were just about the same as yours.
So I guess that makes you either a perfect fit or a slight reach.

My stats were: 4.1 weighted, 3.7 unweighted, +3 Community college classes.
4 years sports
no high school clubs
3 years community service for a total of 400 hours
2200 SAT
800 SAT math II , 790 language
and a touching essay…

Hope that is some sort of encouragement, GOODLUCK!
