I am a Caucasian lesbian, I am captain of Science Bowl, president of Science Olympiad, president of Spanish Club, and senior class secretary. I have mediocre subject test scores that I took just in case (Spanish, US History, and Math Level 2 all around 600ish), but I got a D in Calculus I over the summer at a community college which I only took so I could be in Calculus BC this year (which I am) but I am probably going to get a C in it this semester which colleges will see and probably think I’m incapable of doing math. Also, I have no passions or talents but I could probably come up with something in my essay. Also, I didn’t play any sports at all during my high school experience or do any club for more than 2 years (I did Science Bowl, Science Olympiad, and Student Government my junior and senior year only and created Spanish Club this year.
This is also probably a lot of information but I just want to provide as much as possible so here are my classes(I got an A in all of them unless noted otherwise)
Freshman year -
Health/Computers
Spanish 2
Honors Biology (B)
PE 1
Honors English 1
Geometry (B for only 1 semester)
Sophomore year -

Honors World History (B for only 1 semester)
PE 2 (B for only 1 semester)
Honors English 2 (B)
Chemistry
Algebra 2
Junior year -
AP US History (I got a 2 on this exam) (B for only 1 semester)
AP Physics (I got a 1 on this exam)
Pre-Calculus
Student Government
AP Spanish (I got a 4 on this exam) (B for only 1 semester)
Honors English 3
Senior year -

I understand that this is just based on opinion and feel free to be brutally honest because I’m already trying to convince myself I won’t get in to soften the blow when it happens. Thanks!

What is your UC GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Based on your post, I see a pattern of struggling with advanced material presented in the AP classes (low AP scores). Although AP scores are not used for admission purposes, it shows that you may not be ready to handle the rigor and competitiveness of a school like UCLA. You also have several B’s on your transcript along with the D which will be hugely detrimental to your chances.
I think UCLA is going to be a tough admit. I still think you should apply since it is always nice to have 1 or 2 Reach schools on your list.

Senior grades are not considered for admissions unless you are a borderline applicant and UCLA sends you a supplemental where you may have to submit 1st semester grades.

Best of Luck

My UC GPA is 4.2. I was hoping my leadership positions and the fact that the D was only in a college course would make me not look so bad. I also didn’t think Bs were so bad until now…

What UCs do you think are more in my range?

UCD/UCI/UCSB/UCSC and possibly UCSD should be within your range. Your UC GPA is competitive and ACT and SAT scores on target for the Mid-tier UC’s, but your AP test scores indicate grade inflation at your school. You should still apply since your essays and EC’s could boost your chances but you need some good backup schools.

Okay thanks
