Ucla

sorry, no one answered to the previous thread
I have dreamedof going to ucla for as long as i remember, and i know i don;t have a shot but i wanted to see what you guys thought anyway, could you tell me my 'chances' for all ucs? (i am a senior nextyear)

Horrible cumilitve uc gpa- around 3.92, but i have a huge upward trend- for the four semesters that count- 3.33, 3.83, 4.0, 4.5 opefully they will see that

SATS- i knew i screwed upmajorly when i came out- i ended up with a 1950 while aiming for 2100+, i know i can get at least a 2050 simply due to way better practice tests.

Sat II- also screwedup
biology E- 680
Us History- 700

Will be taking most likely 8 AP classes total, possibly 7 but yeah

ECs- I have done 4 years of tennis, 3 years on varsity
3 years on my schools journalism newspaper, one year (next year) i am its financial manager

4 years as a very active member of my schools JSA chapter- leadership positions for the last three years ( events coordinator, mini cia officer, treasurer, secretary, etc)

2 summers (counting this summer) of an internship at an investment firm

various community service at library and hospital, only have around 65 hours right now but hope to boost that to at least 100 this summer.

i realize i dont have that MANY ecs but i feel like i have longevity in all of them and i hope that will help me

should have excellent essays, writing is kind of my thing

thanks

Well, you didn't exactly "screw up" if you have a 3.93 UP GPA--especially if you were 3.33 first semester sophomore year and have improved steadily ever since.

I rate your chances as follows:

UC Berkeley--slight reach to reach
UCLA--slight reach (about 40% chance of admission)
UCSD--match
UCSB/USD/UCI--safe match
UCSC/UCR/UCM--safeties

If you can get the SAT I score up to around 2100, emphasis your interest in UCLA and write a great essay your chances at UCLA could get up to around 50%+. Good luck with this--I'm a UCLA alumnus myself, and it's a great school.

thanks, anyone else? any help would be greatly appericiated

UC Berkeley: Reach/Slight Reach
UCLA: Reach/Slight Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCSB/UC Davis: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

GPA just a bit low for Berk, LA, and SD.
SAT is also a bit low, but almost average for those schools.

I think you deff have a shot, especially since your grades were increasing. Berk and LA are between a slight reach and a reach. SD looks like a slight reach, because gpa is slightly lower than the average admit and sat around their average, but check their points formula to see where you stand. All the lower UC's are safe matches or safetys. UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD are all around slight reaches. Best of luck! I think you have a good shot in getting into atleast one of the top three!

sharptooth23:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

thanks guys...ihope i can get in...bump..anyone else?
