UCLA's Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy

This is a question from the parent of a student that is considering Law School as her next step.

She recently came across information on the Epstein Program in Public Interest Law at UCLA(About the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy | David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law & Policy | UCLA Law).

Are there similar programs in the East Coast?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That's an interesting program! I don't know of ones just like it, but CUNY law school in New York is a whole school focused on public interest law. If your daughter has the GPA and LSAT scores for UCLA, she'd almost definitely get into CUNY, because it is a lot less selective. The tuition is very very low, even for non-NY residents, though since the school's in NY the cost of living is quite high.About - CUNY School of Law

I would caution her that a CUNY degree is a lot less portable than a UCLA degree and that if she decides not to do public interest (or wants to work outside of New York) she would find herself at a disadvantage.

Stacy,

Thanks for the pointer to CUNY School of Law. I will share it with her. She is just getting started in the process. Her GPA is reasonably high but she hasn't taken the SAT.
