What's up guys, I'm thinking of applying to UConn this fall. On my current list of colleges, UConn is the easiest to get into, so I guess it's my "safety". What I want to knew, is do you guys think I will definetly get in? I'd rather not waste the time applying to an easier school, but if I don't have a 100% chance of getting into UConn then I'd like to have something that I'm sure about. Here are my stats:

-White male
-3.38 gpa on a 4.0 scale (New Jersey public school). Only 1 honors class and no APs.
-1970 new SAT, 1340 old (680 math, 660 cr, 630 writing).
-3 years varsity lacrosse, 2 years FBLA business club, youth soccer referee, 2 jobs, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, 4 years rec basketball.

Just post up what you guys think about my chances. Remember that I am out of state. Thanks.

match/reach...sorry but thats the truth.

Your GPA is too low and your out of state. As stated above match maybe even reach.

3.38 on a 4.0 scale is not low, but I still don`t think that you have a 100% chance at uconn.

My son is from NJ too with similar stats. He had very good ecs. He was waitlisted. Comes out of a competitive NJ public. He did apply to the biz school, which is probably tougher than some of Uconn's other programs. Hope this helps. I would not count on them.

Thanks for the quick replies. I didn't realize uconn was so competitive, so I guess I'll definetly be applying to some easier schools. According to princeton review and college board my SATs are above the 75% mark, but I guess my GPA is a bit low, and being out of state hurts. Again, thanks to all who replied.

Match/reach- your GPA and coming from NJ hurt. definitely apply to easier schools as well.

don't take all of these messages to heart. I had a 3.2 GPA with a 1060 SAT score and I got in. Just show them everything u got. I sent them a dvd of a national public speaking competition I did. Send them things that are unique, that show your special skills. Don't be distracted by these failure stories and get inspired by my success story. You will get in if you prove to them that u deserve it.

Earlygrad, One difference between you and my son is that you are from Connecticut. That makes a big difference. I think that it is best to apply, but not use UConn. as a safety, b/c it is clearly not a safety. It is good to be realistic, and make sure that one has viable options in the spring.

I just feel like everyone has been putting ridiculous down and I was just trying to show him that his chances weren't all negative. Yes, tell him what happened in your experience but don't tell him that the same thing will probably happen to him. Most people send the conventional application and I feel that is where they go wrong. You have to be different and positive. Why was every post besides mine negative? No Uconn is not a safety but is not a reach either.

I am not being negative. My point was that UCONN is not a safety school. He asked if UConn was a safety for him, and it is not a safety. That does not mean that he should forget about UConn. It means that he should not count on getting in. Hopefully he will, and it could go either way.

I'm instate and I have an 86 avg, tough senior year class listing and a 1120 out of 1600 sat, good ec's and great recomendations, one of which is from a Uconn teacher, how r my chances?

you will probably get in the branch, but not the main campus. sorry.

raffi725 you have good chances at any branch

just not storrs....i go there, i know.

what SAT score do u think I need to get in with that GPA, if it helps at all I'm take AP stats, AP Us History, and AP English this year. Do you think if I break 1200 I could get in? I have the essay already done, and I will be appyling the min the Application comes out if that helps.

with a 1250 your in good shape, an 86 average is low. Bring it up to an 88 and your in pretty good shape on that end. It also depends on what program you are applying for.

is liberal arts the easiest?, im thinking clasics and mediteranian studies, because that is small and they need kids for that major???

aces and liberal arts
